Had pleasant and interesting conversation with Zak from Heraklion - Plakias and return. Nice chap. Bang on time and would recommend on that basis. Do our own thing these days and better than the 'interesting' Olympic magical mystery tour

Had many rides with zak, he's a long time friend of my family
We are in touch via Facebook
I'll be there next spring from Tampa to finikas

To my knowledge there are 5 tavernaís in Selia, so I guess it depends on what you want.

As MickyDripping said Elia`s run by Nickos  is good, quite upmarket, but good food although I thought a little expensive, you then have Menastri which has the same views as Elia`s and is run by Yogos and Annie a brother and sister, they serve modern Greek food with a twist.

On the way out of Selia towards Rodakino you have another Taverna owned by Nicos I canít remember the taverners name but it has large glass windows and is on the right just as you get to the end of Selia, Nicos has been a chief in and around Plakias for the last 25 years and his menu is a bit less adventurous and more traditional and his prices reflect this.

Then again I canít remember the name but there is a taverna on the lower road as if you were going to the cheese factory again this is very traditional and mainly barbequed traditional meats and dishes, I have only been once but it was OK.

Then there is the one in the centre opposite Elia`s, I have been a few times good basic food with prices to match.

So Take you pick and bon-appetite

Try Elia's..... slightly more sophisticated than the usual, but well worth it. And the views from a window seat are incredible. One of my favourites in the area.

If it wasn't for the transfers, I'd probably travel independently, although a package gives ABTA  protection. Having said that, I couldn't get anything much cheaper independently for the high season. Next year we'll no longer be tied to school holidays so hope to get a bargain one way or another (may catch up with you then Daza!!)

On return (sunny weather every day for a week):
Taxis were E6 each way to either bays on each side of Plakias. They were quite prompt and were always organised by the tavernas that I was sat at.

I also noted jet skis in the bays on two days. And, there were electric bikes for hire but at a highish hire price of E28 per day. I would suggest making the price around E12 per day to make the bikes worth bothering with (but then again I am from Yorkshire hehe).

"Overall a good week with lots of our German neighbours present and not so many British".
I am wondering why so few British. Brexit/Price - or is it simply cos Olympic aren't doing transfers to Plakias (et al) from anywhere except for Gatwick and Manchester.
Shot themselves in the foot there! (at least from my perspective). Oh well - there's always next year I suppose. Fingers crossed.

Agree on the transfers, though our return transfer was certainly full of adventure. The coach driver got stuck down a tiny street in Rethymnon and only just got out of, and then had to boot it back to the airport. I think he received some complaints as there were less than 2 hours left before take-off.

There has to be something to be said for hiring a car from the airport and saving on the transfer. The South of the Island has so much to offer and personal transport would be helpful. Maybe that is the way it will be for most who want to get to the South with the package companies/Olympic?

 :)

Just returned on early Saturday morning (the washing has been done and the routine is slowly getting back to normal).

Yes, Elspeth was the rep and very pleasant she was, and very helpful too.

The weather was sunny every day except one partly beckoning cloudy day, though I only felt a few specks of a shower and stayed on the beach. The next day had a few light wispy clouds but nothing serious. Water still a bit cool though warming up by the end of the week. Overall a good week with lots of our German neighbours present and not so many British.

Stopped at Kostas and Chrysoulla, both Kostas and Angelo there as normal. Food great at some places though had a few dry dishes from the so-called specials board at some other places. Probably on the specials board because it was all pre-cooked (e.g. Pastitsio/and Gyros).
