Yes it is a annual event, and we have been fortunate enough to be in Plakias at the right time to enjoy most of them. There was one year l think it was 2015 when it was cancelled during the day due to poor weather, (rain and wind.) The car park by the bridge in front of the tavernas is usually cordoned off a day or so before to erect the stage so you get an idea when it is happening.

In today's newspaper it says Greece does not intend to implement the additional security checks until 7th October this year. Which I believe is around the time it was meant to commence in all EU country's .

The Plakias winds are part of the summer Greek meltimi winds which originate around the mountains of central and Eastern Europe, passes over the Black Sea then funnels through the bosphouros and down the Aegean Sea. When it reaches Crete along the north coast it is then concentrated through the various north to south gorges. Plakias is at the end of a short straight gorge ending very close to the the village so the wind unfoturnately does not have time to break up before reaching the sea.
The winds show up well on the ventusky or windytv apps or webpages as mentioned in April posts this year.
Hope I haven't bored you to much.

I don't think you will have any extra delay or additional security checks from uk airports, the additional checks and delays, if any in Greece, will be on arrival and departure at a Schengen airport. If passengers need to be at a uk airport before the 2 hours they should be notified by the airline. What these extra checks from the eu mean to the API information which we have to supply to airlines prior to a flight is any body's guess, as the API is supposed to enable the security services to thoroughly check all passengers before they fly.

From the little I have read in the news it appears mostly to be affecting Spain, France, and Holland. Who have all introduced the new regulations earlier than required, (should start in October).

Hi Arnaki, good to have up to date feedback and hopefully it's not as windy today. Carry on with the medication, raki is one of the best.
I know how every one feels about Plakias it does have that magical drawing quality. Last September we arrived there with every intention of having a change this year, but within 15 minutes whilst still having a welcome drink we decided to book again for this year. 7 more weeks to go.

Hi all forum members,
Is it a very quite summer this year in Plakias, or nothing new to report or people are having a change. As the forum seems to be very quite so far, only about 12 new posts in the first 3 months of the season. Sadly we won't be arriving until the second half of September so can't help till then.
Yammos all.

Thanks, I had a look and it took a bit of digging to find the sea temp but I got there. Interesting to see that the sea is approximately twice the temp around Crete as it is for Enland at present.
I found that the graphics look more detailed with ventusky but that could just be my tablet.

Thank you, the only thing that appears to be missing is being able to select sea temperature. Perhaps someone else can find it.

The view today looks nice and bright although it is still looks quite on the streets, and a lot of seaweed is getting washed up on the beach on the southeast camera. I have noticed that the sea always seems rougher on the Plakias webcams than it does just along the coast on the Paleochora webcam I don't now if any one else as noticed.

Hello to you all and have a good Easter, I don't know if the following link will interest anybody but it does give a lot of info. It covers all of Europe and allows you to zoom in on areas of interest, selecting temperature, wind, rain etc. In real time.

This is the link.

Hope you all have good holidays in Plakias this year and continue to do so and may see some of you in September.
