Indeed it is, thankfully some things don't change.

We're fine thanks Yvonne. Though even me with finely honed hermit skills is starting to climb the walls.
No Plakias this year for the first time in 20 years though we did get in a trip to Marrakech just before lockdown which was fab.

Wow it has been a while.
Hope you are all well.

I will shortly be moving the Forum to a new WebHost.
It should all be pretty straightforward (famous last words!).

Because it takes a while for the DNS name changes to propagate I will put the forum in maintenance mode so that way we won't lose any posts.

So you won't be able to post new messages for a while. Tomorrow morning should be back up and running.

Forum and Website discussion / Re: Strange mails via board@plakias.co.uk
« on: November 30, 2017, 11:33:33 AM »
No, it is definitely not us sending emails.

Likely to be email spoofing where the 'From' address is set to be the Plakias Board email address.
Not really a lot you can do about this with the way email works in general.

Once an email address is 'harvested' then it is available for scammers to use in this way. Email addresses are harvested in many ways, lists sold etc.
Its happened to my personal email address, you generally know because you will start to receive email delivery failure notifications, so called 'backscatter'. Scammers bulk send emails to thousands of recipients (also harvested, lists sold etc.) and the ones that can't get through can be returned to the 'sender' i.e me/you because that is what the 'from' address says.

Annoying yes, but as long as you don't open any links or attachments from unrecognized sources then you should be fine.

The Kafenion has been called many things over the years as different people run it.
I have always found it to be excellent.

Just back from a 2-week trip and we visited Xezonis 3 times with friends. We opted to do 'Greek Tapas', i.e share a load of starters which were always excellent.
It is made even better by the friendly staff including Michalis and Tania.

Yep, they are all over Amazon/eBay. Have read mixed reviews but semi-tempted so I could attach an action cam. Here is an example...

Plakias / Plakias Weather
« on: February 06, 2016, 07:37:28 PM »
As many of you already know, Nikos at Medousa maintains a Weather Station for the National Observatory of Athens.

You can find the uploaded data here.

It has been a bit patchy recently and is not currently updating.

Anyway being the sad individual that I am, I also maintain a Weather Station here in Whitton, West London and one for my father in Ilfracombe, Devon.

So I thought I would do a comparison between the 3 locations to see who is the warmest, coldest, windiest, wettest etc.
The results aren't hugely surprising!

If you are interested in the data I have attached two spreadsheets here for the last two years, there are different worksheets in the spreadsheets.
It should be fairly self-explanatory if you look at them.

Taking 2014 as an example (as 2015 is missing some data for December in Plakias) we see that:

Highest Average (whole day) - Plakias 361, Whitton 4
Highest Max - Plakias 330, Whitton 30, Ilfracombe 4
Lowest Min - Whitton 211, Ilfracombe 153, Plakias 1
Windiest (Average) - Plakias 211, Whitton 129, Ilfracombe 24*
Wettest - Whitton 171, Ilfracombe 135, Plakias 59
* Anenometer placement not good, windier in reality.

Nothing hugely surprising there.

Though it doesn't tell the whole story, you need to look at the detail.

For example in Jan/Feb 2015 Plakias had an incredible 700mm+ of rain, way more than my total for the year.

I need to update the spreadsheets with sheets for rain and wind, i'll get around to that sometime.

Two men are walking down the road and they come across a dog licking its privates.

'My god, I wish I could do that' says one man to the other.

'I think you'd better try stroking him first to check he doesn't bite' his friend replies.
