Where is good??
« on: June 29, 2005, 04:41:41 PM »
Anybody back from Plakias please post your recommendations!

I'm looking to book (independent) for Late September 2005 and after a five year absence from Plakias haven’t got a clue where is good or bad. I’m looking for – quiet, a short walk to tavernas & beach and a comfortable place with at least a fridge and kettle.

You won't go far wrong here

http://www.interkriti.net/hotel/plakias/anna-apts/

The studios are large, well equipped, in a quiet location but just a few minutes walk on the level from the sea front.

We are so glad that the Anna apts have been given great reviews - now just 2 sleeps wakefosill - wont be biking or driving - last year the drive up from Gouves (nothern crete) was a white knucle thing - the best bit was diving thro the gorge heading back to plakias and guess what - it was windy!  Rodger - will give my regards to Phil Silvers and try in my best greek to make him smile for the first time in 20 years (kinda goes like this - teekannis seemera karafala - how ye doin baldy) No (Ochee) wont say it will just think it! We are going for travellers cheques because we want to go cash them at the Livicon or Aliathos, we think it will be better than the hole in the wall. One small problem though  - what are the chances of using someones pool (in 1986 we accidently broke the diving board at the Alianthos -greeks NEVER forget a face) so if anyone knows a nice pool away from the wind please let us know ............. In the 80's/90's (man I'm old) we used to call the gyros resturant the soovie shop I will be spending a lot of time there I think - anyway thanks for all the advice comments etc - if my darling wife Anna allows I may become a far ender this year and get a photo with the doughnut man just like dutch Joe!!!!!!!

Hi all

I'm planning to arrive in Plakias on Saturday morning (July 9th) - what's availability of accommodation likely to be?  I've always just found a place when I got there in the past, but haven't visited in July before.

thanks

I've just been to Plakias without pre-booked accommodation and got a room at Kyriakos Apartments within 5 minutes of getting off the bus.  This used to be two separate places including Kyriakos leatherware shop with rooms upstairs, which now seem to have been combined under new management.

Nice ensuite twin room with shaded balcony facing the sea, fridge, kettle and reasonable selection of corckery and cultery, towels and bedlinen changed every day.  Very quiet location. Rooms at the back have a great view of the hills. If you go up Nikos Souvlaki Street you'll see it on the corner, across the road from a taverna (Medousa or Menousos or something like that).   I've probably got their card somewher if anyone wants a contact number.

Rodger,

You seemed to go to all the places that I did, including Kyriakos Pension. I just stumbled across it after finding nobody in at the place I stayed last time I was in Plakias. I was in a room at the back on the ground floor. The taverna next door is Medousa.

Don't tell me you stayed at Zorba's in Sougia as well? Also highly recommended btw.

(actually I spent the first two nights at Paradiso, but then decided I'd rather spend the wee hours sleeping than listening to the loud music from Alabama. Must be getting old ...)

Blimey! Yes, I did stay in Zorba's! I got off the ferry (from Paleochora) and after the long walk into the village (well it's long when pulling a bag), I just asked at the first place I came to. I spent some of the wee hours in Alabama!

Well I don't think you could have found a much nicer place if you'd walked the length of the village.

I got the boat from Agia Roumeli and was alarmed when about 200 other people got off at Sougia.  But it turned out they were almost all Samaria day-trippers and were only walking a couple of hundred meters to their waiting tour buses.

We have stayed several times just on the other side of Plakias at SKINOS 2 studios - great views, lovely family running them.  5 Good size rooms each with a double and single bed, kitchenette and shower room.  Balcony overlooks the terrace.  Very quiet location but only a 10 minute walk into town.  It's a bit of a steep slope up to the studios so if you're not too fit you could try SKINOS 1 which you arrive at first.  They have a website and you can email them SKINOS-PLAKIAS <Skinos@acn.gr>
