Hi

Went and booked our holiday to Plakias last weekend, and the only places available were the Alianthos Beach Hotel and the Alianthos Gardens Hotel.  The other studios were all booked up and this is for the 1st 2 weeks in Oct, flying 28th Sept.  When I checked on 12th December 2006, there were the Dora, Costas Chrysoulla and the Santa Maria available.

I cannot believe that the accommodation was fully booked.  When we booked for 1 week last year we booked the Costas Chrysoulla 6 weeks before flying and had no problems (we ended up at Zorbas).

Does someone know something we don't?

Anyway we have booked the Alianthos Beach Hotel for the two weeks and are really looking forward to going back to Plakias again.

Over the last two years in Plakias at that time of year it was obvious that this period of late September / early October is perhaps becoming the busiest season in Plakias. When we first went there, 9 years ago, then it was relatively quiet.

I'm not surprised about many dates being full booked already. The only thing that does surprise me is that Olympic and Kosmar don't expand their operations.  Why don't other mainline operators come in to fulfil the demand?

One of the reasons the prices are so reasonable is that they sting you if you need to make changes or cancel. I have had to do that with two holidays booked for later this year and the money they wanted for making changes meant it was cheaper to cancel, lose the deposits paid, and make other arrangements. I expect upwards of 5% of bookings are changed each year so this must subsidise the low margins on these holidays.

On the plus side it does mean that a Kosmar booking at Kostas Chrysoulla for Oct 2 (14 days) will be coming back on to the Kosmar website sometime soon so some lucky person will bag it.

You'll be OK there...just look out for the grumpy old man in the restaurant in the evenings!  (See my write-up for more details.)

I've booked our May holiday today, 2 weeks at the KC with Olympic, Woo!

I doubt we'll spend all two weeks in Plak but it's nice to have a base

I needed to phone Olympic today to bemoan the fact that they had sent me the 2007 brochure instead of the 2008 I had requested. During a conversation about their website I was told that if you phone them they will always give you a better price than if you book on the web, even though they have a web discount. I found this surprising and is worth knowing. Also they have a free phone number.

For 2008 I think they are offering Kostas Chrysoulla, Dora, and Santa Maria, in addition to the Alianthos hotels.
