Is the Gavdos ferry up and running,or not? Anyone know?????    Alex

I understand from the Sfakia forum that the larger Gavdos ferry supposed to be running from the new Plakias harbour never got started due to non compliance with regulations. No idea about the local smaller trips from Plakias

I found this on the web site of Gavdos-Star:

"ANNOUNCEMENT
We would like to inform our dear passengers that PS Gavdos Star is ending, with immidiate effect,
it's ferry service from Plakias to Gavdos.
We are sorry for any incovenince caused and we thank you for your understanding."

O well, Thanks Kerstin, and john, for your help....Alex

just get Fran on a lilo when the wind is blowing and she'll soon get there!
Fran says she will put you on one with a slow puncture.....Alex

How you doing George...     Visit My Website              Alex

Great website Alex. I was enchanted by Gavdos when we went for the day a few years ago.
Might have to try and go back this year.

We were going to go a couple of years ago, but if I remember right you only got about an hour there before the last boat back, where did you go from?

Cheers     Alex

Well after visiting Plakias for many years , this year I had to book September, I have only ever been in June, and once in early August, It seems to be busier in September , Can anyone tell me  what is the weather like then, hoping its still quite warm......Alex

We always go late Sept / early Oct. Weather usually excellent and hot but not as excessively (in my opinion) hot as mid summer. It is possible for the occasional shower of rain to materialise at that time of year. It is quite busy because I think that many people prefer the lower but still very warm temperatures.

Cheers John, I am going on the 6th Sept, I contacted Marcus at Stella, and was very surprised to find ouit he only had 1 room left downstairs, and said I would have to be quick if I wanted it, when I go in June , most times I am the only one there....Alex

Nice to know that someone is taking advantage of the new facilities in Plakias. Do you know how long the trip takes?

Just a thought, I've never been there or know anything about the island, what's on there?

A bit late for us as we are already booked for May and September but have just seen some new flights to Crete from Newcastle with Jet 2 which look quite good.
They might be worth a look for anyone not yet booked for Plakias.

Thanks Daniel I have just booked with them from Manchester, I was considering a package hol as the price of air fare had gone up so much, but they were very reasonable.......Alex

I notice that a lot of you travel independently  to Plakias !  Is this really the best way ?

I paid £187 for a return flight with Monarch, Manchester to Heraklion, transfer and self catering accommodation at Kostas Chrysoulla with Olympic  (in  May) .

Hi Jann, I have travelled independently for the last 8 years , Even taking into account a taxi both ways, it was still cheaper, however checking this year it looks like I could save about £400,in total for Fran and I to go on a package, The down side for me is I always stay At Stella, and I would feel I was letting them down, but its quite a difference.....Alex

Change of Plan, I have just booked a flight with jet2 from Manchester, for £225, including 22.5 kls luggage, so its back to Stella for me, That is if hes got a room, it seems very busy in Sept, I have only ever been in June.    Alex
