Title: Kostas-Chrysoulla Studios
Post by: LesleyAnn on February 17, 2005, 08:52:52 PM
Hi there

I'm thinking of going to Plakias in May and really like the look of the Kostas-Chrysoulla Studios. Can anyone tell me a lil more about them? I'm confused about the number of units as different brochures give me different figures!

Any info greatly appreciated! Thanks.

A previous post mentions 42 units which sounds about right - certainly not 5. We have stayed there and found it ok. Best bet for info is to do a search of the forum for Kostas or Costas (both spellings have been used)

Are you sure that the 5 doesn't refer to the number of units of accommodation that Olympic has at the Kostas Chysoulla. The 42 previously mentioned sounds more like it. Or maybe they are in 5 blocks.

We are booked to go there in May with Olympic. I was not too pleased to receive a letter from Olympic a couple of days ago saying that my return flight has been delayed by nearly 12 hours.

So the outward flight leaves Gatwick at 5.30am and arrives just before noon but the return flight dosen't leave until 23.15, arriving Gatwick around 01.25. If the plane we come home on also is arriving at Heraklion at this time, I can't understand why it doesn't leave until so much later. Usually turn around time is about an hour.

This will be the third holiday in a row when a flight has been rescheduled. Last May we were not told this until we arrived at Gatwick (2.5 hour rescheduling, not a delay). Last October I was told while on holiday that my return flight was leaving about 3.5 hours later than stated, resulting in my being on the last train out of King's Cross at ca. 1.00am and probably being the only sober one on the train. Airlines seem to have a habit of doing this at the start or end of the season.

the answer to the 5 or 42 units at kostas chrysoulla is that there are 5 blocks (units) which altogether would make up 42 rooms - honestly i've been there for years

Re. my Feb 18 post in this topic, I have now had another letter from Olympic Holidays saying we are travelling outwards on a 9.00am Monarch flight, and return to Gatwick at 01.25am on an Excel flight. Two changes in less than a week.

hi lesley ann - not sure what to tell you eveything is pretty basic but still has everything you need, its a nice wee friendly place. buffet breakfast if your up in time - pool bar is there for drinks and snacks all day. the pool is always clean as are the rooms - no one really bothers you. the rooms are either ground level or first floor, nothing higher. and the owners (2 kostas's) are friendly and speak great english. if you think of anything that you need too know let me know

on another note i'm coming out in sympathy with mike - the newcastle flight with olympic has now changed its departure time 3 times. i've gave up. its now meant to be 9am but i'm not holding my breath - bet it changes again

Seems you are experiencing similar problems to the ones we had when we flew with Olympic 2 years ago - in our case 4 changes, the combined effect being 13 hours less time in the resort. Last year with First Choice was much better

Thanks Sheryl - its useful to have some background info. We've now booked and will be meeting the 2 Kostas in May! If I think of any other questions I'll just ask...

I have now spoken to Olympic and have persuaded them to change the flights (at no cost to me) so we are travelling out on the 9.00am Monarch flight and returning on the corresponding flight, which is scheduled to be back at Gatwick at 18.00. Not quite as good as the 05.30am departure (which ensures arrival in resort mid afternoon) but good enough!

still on the topic of Kostas-Chrysoulla

i think we are going to be collecting a hire car at the airport, so we'll be missing that treat of a coach transfer from heraklion   :'(

so where are the studios? the brochure says just off the main road but that a little vague

Driving into the town with the sea on your left you go over a bridge, then turn right. Costas Chrysoulla is about 100yds down a side opening on the left, just past some shops and a restaurant serving morrocan food.

Hi LesleyAnn
We stayed at the Studios last October via Olympic and had problems initially.  Despite requesting an upper floor room when we booked in January 2004, we were put in a ground floor room next to the back entrance of the main building - it was awful!  There was no privacy, little security and a poor view.
We were told by the Olympic rep that the Kostas have a habit of "bumping" the package tour residents out of their allocated rooms in favour of relatives and friends.
After making a considerable fuss, we were transferred after 3 days, into a separate block on the seafront (Glaros apartments, I think), also owned by Kostas.  The first floor room was pretty small but faced South and had a great view of the bay.
The rest of the holiday was great and we are going back this October, but not with Olympic and not to Kostas!!!!!
I do hope you don't suffer the same problems as us - if you're not happy, make a fuss!!!!
Regards
Andy B

We had similar problems in 2003, Andy - we had a ground floor annex room with the balcony overlooking the cleaner's cupboard/smoking area  We didn't complain but chose Stella for 2004. For the most part, Costas Chrysoulla is good and the rooms were re-furbished in 2004.

Somewhere on the Forum this room is identified as No. 56. When earlier this month the Olympic rep gave us our room number on the transfer, I was pleased it was not 56 (it was 59 which was fine, if small). 56 had the worst balcony view I have ever seen. I would have hated it. The apartment above wasn't much better (62 I think). Future visitors to Kostas Chrysoulla beware.

I have done a detailed review of Kostas Chrysoulla in the new review section Ploppy has added. Basically very positive.

i think it's number 56's balcony that over looks the stairs and car park, it's right above where the cleaners ( bless their hearts) have their fag break

i think the occupants for the last couple of weeks weren't too happy about it ( or anything else actually  )

great apartments generally, but there are NO safety deposit boxes in the section we were in, and i will update the instructions on how to get to them in the reports section

Hello Harribobs,

It is definitely No 62 that overlooks the stairs; No 56 is underneath and is even worse, although it was unoccupied during 10-24 May. Both should be avoided.

Hope you enjoyed Kostas Chrysoulla as much as we did.

Hello Harribobs,

You're forgiven as you only did it once (we were in No 59)!

During our first week (around May 12) a couple of lads almost underneath spent about 3 hours (3.00am -6.00am) shouting and screaming at each other which was much worse.

Re Kostas Chrysoulla, do any of the forum members in the travel industry know if  Olympic have dropped this accommodation for 2006? I can't find it on their website under the 2006 brochure. All I can find is the two Alianthos hotels.

This would be a pity, leaving only Kosmar doing self catering accommodation. Maybe it will be in a later version of their brochure.

"We will be selling this holiday but we are waiting to receive the
contract from the accommodation before adding it to our system.  Try
again within the next few weeks."

Just returned from 2 weeks at Kostas Chrysoulla and for the first time in 5 consecutive years of staying there had a bad time, at least initially, with the accomodation.  On arrival assigned room 67 which has to go down as the worst room i've ever encountered.  The first thing I had to do was clean the toilet, shower and basin, the bathroom window had 2 panes of glass missing and all surfaces had a film of dust.  The shower had no means of attaching it to the wall and the shower head was held together with masking tape.  I wasn't chuffed with it but thought I'd stick it out until the next day and have a word with Morven.  I soon changed my mind when I closed the bathroom door behind me and found myself trapped in the bathroom for 20 minutes. Went and complained to Kostas and was moved to a room in the block over the wall behind the swimming pool.  The room itself was fine, but the door didn't fit and just banged all night in the strong winds.  So after a sleepness night finally got moved into room 7 in Zorbas above the jewellery shop.  Great room, big balcony and a great sea view.  Could get a bit noisy out the front but that was no big deal, it makes a change to be able to watch the village go by of an evening.

One final point.  Am I possibly the only person who actually enjoyed their stay in the 'broom cupboard'?  Had the room last year and though it was great.  Huge room, cool, quiet and a shaded balcony which felt like you were looking out onto your own private courtyard garden.  Shame it gets such a bad press on the board.

Hello David,

I assume you mean No. 56. Someone else mentioned that the room itself was above average.

For me, it would need to be. I climbed on to the balcony last year to see the view first hand and it's dire.

Still, each to his own. Many opinions get expressed on this forum.

I certainly would have been most unhappy to have received the treatment you did at KC.

I am looking at next years holiday, and was wondering about this accommodation.

Are any of them 2 room apartments, so that my wife & I can have the bedroom, and my 2 children can sleep in the lounge/kitchen or whatever you want to call it?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I can confirm that they have exactly what you want at Kostas Chryssoula. We stayed there the first two weeks of July. We had booked through Neckermann. The apparment we had was actually called "Christina appartments", but they belong to the Kostas Chryssoula family. We had a room to ourselves, with balcony and bathroom and then a second very large room with a small kitchen in it and 2 single beds for our kids + a balcony. It was all very large and very clean. I do not know whether there are more such rooms in the other buildings (there are 5 different buildings), but I think there are ...

hi lesley ann - not sure what to tell you eveything is pretty basic but still has everything you need, its a nice wee friendly place. buffet breakfast if your up in time - pool bar is there for drinks and snacks all day. the pool is always clean as are the rooms - no one really bothers you. the rooms are either ground level or first floor, nothing higher. and the owners (2 kostas's) are friendly and speak great english. if you think of anything that you need too know let me know

on another note i'm coming out in sympathy with mike - the newcastle flight with olympic has now changed its departure time 3 times. i've gave up. its now meant to be 9am but i'm not holding my breath - bet it changes again

Hi Sheryl. My wife and I are thinking of going to Crete for the first time in October and would like to know if you have any knowledge about Kostas-chrysoullas apartments, I have seen their own website but it doesn't say how close to the naturist beach it is. I would be very grateful for any information you might be able to give us.

With thanks

Dear Mike, We've not stayed there for a few years now but it is centrally located, ideal for bars and restaurants. It is about a 15 min. walk to the 'far end' naturist beach. Very pleasant, though, walking along the front.

Dear Graham & Karen, thanks very much for that info, it sounds good. I booked last night for two weeks in October so there's no going back now.

Hello Mike,

I'm sure you will like KC. The standards are pretty good and they are serviced regularly. The two owners (Kostas and Kostas) are very friendly and helpful and if you need anything I'm sure they will do their best to oblige you. As someone else  has said they are in the middle of things- there is a very nice baker's near the end of the passage to the seafront. In terms of tavernas I would try Medousa, Mousses (on the seafront and doing some excellent set meals for two) and the Souvlaki bar just east of there. I can confirm the far end is about 15 mins walk (obviously flat as KC is at sea level).

If you are a walker then I would strongly recommend Lance Chilton's two books on Plakias walks which are available from his website and, I have heard, in Plakias as well.

The weather should be good in October, not too hot (20-30°C) although you may get a couple of rainy days in the two weeks.

I hope you enjoy.

Mike

ps. only downside is that I heard Mandy's photos are no longer propping up the KC bar.

Mike - did you book KC for October? - if not get in quick, prices have just reduced and we've just booked for a week from 5th Oct at under £400.  Pete is seriously thinking of ringing one of the Costas direct to request room 7 (or another 'front' room) at Zorbas.

It must be a relatively easy walk to the Far End, we did it last year every day and are hoping the weather is equally kind this year to do the same thing!  Someone said it takes 15 mins to walk from KC to the FE, we've never done it quite that quick as we have to visit the 'original' (but now much bigger) supermarket on the front up towards the Alianthos to purchase lunch for the beach, if not also the Forum or other places whilst meandering along.  It's not that we're too mean to go to Paligremnos for lunch, just that we savour the beach so much.  And if I ate a lunch I wouldn't be able to eat a doughnut in the afternoon and I have to do that, obviously, as I need the Extra Vitamina.  On the way back we may well need to stop for a coffee - or any other perfectly valid reason!!  Then if we need anything from the supermarket we would have to go to Ali & Dave's and if there's no-one else in the shop we would obviously have to linger for a chat - be rude not to, wouldn't it? - totally impossible in 15 mins IMHO, even with the aid of a hiking pole to save ze knees, LOL

There are flowers to look at in the dunes (some fantastic pure white lilies last year), birds to see, people to watch - all these things should not be undertaken too quickly, you know!

Can anyone tell me if the dredger is still at work in front of Zorbas? - did spoil the view (but just being picky!)  At least the noise of the compressor stopped me lazing too long in my pit in the mornings!

Yes there is air conditioning at KC, at least in the vast majority of rooms and last time I was there it was €5 per day (not that it was needed in May).

Also known as "Miki Ono" and "Mini Oko" by some of the other customers

It's the taverna/restaurant on the corner from A&D's street where you turn towards the KC.  There are some pretend Minoan axes decorating the walls.

Was going to crib from the map ..... but the link has gone AWOL!

P.S. The food's good, the after-meal treats are delish and the raki is dangerously quaffable (http://www.chatitaliachat.it/serpe/mangia/166.gif)

Glaros was always a favourite of mine - when it was run by Nikos a few years back.
He was refused the renewal of his lease, and the owners started to run it - and in the process ran it into the ground!
Nikos has, however, been working ar Sophias for the last few year - I'll be there next Wednesday having my first Raki of the holiday with him!

the place i'm talking about (not the Ariadne) is actually on the corner as you turn into the road to the KC, george has described it perfectly

this May it had been refurbished and was saying it's self the Mini Oko ( or the like) and it was very good, we ate there a couple of times

the Ariadne wasn't open in May at all

The taverna that is shut is Ariadne (opposite Anso) which was run last year by british couple.  We used to eat there all the time when we were here on holiday but it went down hill.

The new taverna is what was 'Tavernaki' as people have sent on the road further up from shop and the corner to K.C.  It is called Minoiko and is run by Yiorgos (who used to wait at Tasomanolis) and his wife Elefteria.  Had many good reports from there with many people going back night after night.  We went before the season and had a good meal but unfortunately the only night recently we could go with friends they decided to have a night off, very selfish

Definitely worth a visit.

I don't know about Kostas but when we booked this year at Stalla's we were not asked for any deposit - just told the key would be in the door for when we arrived. When we arrived there was no suggestion that we should cough up some money. The level of trust exhibited by the locals is just one of the things we like about Crete.

We booked the Flisvos rooms directly and was told by the owner Maria no deposit was necessary. There was no hurry to pay on arrival either, in fact when I went to pay (in full) on our 2nd day she seemed a little suprised.

I thought payment on the last day of your stay at a hotel was the norm anywhere (unless your stay was part of a pre-paid package).

At Stella's they will ask for and hang on to your passport when you arrive - presumably this is only if they don't know you already.

I thought the same as Noopsy. In many years of travelling to Greece I haven't usually booked in advance but I sometimes have done and I can only recall being asked for a deposit once - I then had the difficulty of working out how to pay it and ended up sending a 20 euro note in the post. Usually they will ask for your passport and keep it until you pay on the last day, although they often don't even do that if you have stayed there before.

I'm getting the impression that it depends on the establishment. I checked into Flisvos this year, told Eleni on the desk that she had a room for me, and asked me if I would like her to show me to the room, which she did. We got to the room opened the door, and I said this is OK, and she left.
I could have been anyone, she didn't check my passport for the name and didn't ask for any money up front and I paid Maria two days before I left.
I love these people and try to treat them as they treat me, with trust, honesty and warmth, let's hope everyone else does the same!

Chris and I have been very disappointed with Costa Chrysoulla this year.  In May we had a broken bathroom window about 5 days into the holiday - it never got fixed.  This September one of the glass doors leading onto the balcony was cracked horizontally in two and held together with a nail driven into the beading.  Highly dangerous especially when one considers I could have fallen into the door at any time after too much raki!  That coupled with too many dodgy toilet seats and rubbish in the flower beds, poor supply of catering equipment, lights bulbs that dont work etc - both times this year we had to ask for a kettle and a bowl for breakfast cereal - its not quite the same eating cereal off a plate : .  It all might sound a bit petty - thing is I dont mind basic and simple but I rather feel a bit more comfort might be in order.  Also this September I had to complain about the fact they only gave me clean towels once in the first week - it should be 3 times.  We have stayed at KC loads of times and I wont say we wont ever stay there again but for a few euros more going independent looks like a better bet. I refuse to tell you where we are looking at - I dont want you all beating me to it  .

Hi there

I'm thinking of going to Plakias in May and really like the look of the Kostas-Chrysoulla Studios. Can anyone tell me a lil more about them? I'm confused about the number of units as different brochures give me different figures!

Any info greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hi

My wife and I have just returned from Kostas-Chrysoulla (2-16/10/07) and we had the worst accommodation ever. The water was literally scalding and we were constantly in danger of it when showering or washing, as well as the risk of burning on the pipes and taps. The shower basin was mouldy and had been for a long time, the hairdryer was illegally wired into the back of the socket, toilet leaked and cistern was faulty, I could go on but suffice to say that the block we were in is in drastic need of renovation. Plakias itself however was beautiful and the naturist beach very accessible and the best and most used section of the beach.

Plakias itself however was beautiful and the naturist beach very accessible and the best and most used section of the beach.

Mike
KC don't seem to be getting a lot of good press this year, but glad you enjoyed Plakias and the beach Mike  .

we've had some half decent rooms, the best being Zorbas ( now the Notus Bar) but every room since then has been worse

in may we had a broken window for 2 weeks, this september one of the big panes in the balcony doors was cracked straight across only held in with a nail left from the broken beading

as Mike says "The shower basin was mouldy and had been for a long time, the hairdryer was illegally wired into the back of the socket, toilet leaked and cistern was faulty" broken shower fittings, missing kitchen items (bowls cups kettle)

they need to invest some money into the rooms and get them up to a decent standard, to be honest i'm surprised Olympic haven't taken them to task

I'm assuming Olympic and Kosmar have "their own" allocated rooms - so anybody know what state the Kosmar rooms are in?

I tell you what broke the camel's back Georgie - the damn dodgy toilet seats - i'm well and truly sick of them - they dont fit properly and I tell you its no fun when you are female - I wont go into too much detail here  as I am sure you get the picture! Chris had to fix ours this September and its not something you want to be doing when your on yer hols - there is enough DIY to be doing at home the rest of the year :'( - yeah and another thing - that toilet leaked too! :'(

Hello Chris,

I had always thought what Chas has assumed, but can't tell you where I got the information (or whether I dreamt it). I expect Ali will tell us.

Anyway, if the Kostases have got slack with the maintenance it is likely to affect all the rooms.

I hope you or Mandy have complained to Olympic re. your problems.

the reason i say this is that some friends of mine ( Meryl and Terry) were told by Kostas to fax him a couple of weeks prior and he would sort their room for them. Also this May when i asked the rep at the airport which roomn are we in, she told me the KC are allocating their own rooms now

Well we had room 3 on the ground floor next to the walkway into the pool etc and had a jolly sociable time chatting to everyone who went past when we were on the terrace.  Had one three quarter bed (mine!) and a single (Pete's LOL)

There were only 2 minor niggles - a socket or switch next to the french doors was hanging off, so we just avoided it.  And yes, although I'm sure it didn't at the beginning of the week, the toilet seat gradually started to slip it's moorings and always managed to catch me unawares every time it did it! - but it was only a bit loose, no worse than one might reasonably expect after a whole summer of bums on it, we thought.  It didn't cause us any grief at all.

However I am aware the two ladies who were directly above us had a cracked window, and lack of drawer space - lack of furniture generally from the remark that was made - and also that our room was larger than theirs.

Bearing in mind the night-flights we thought the keep the room charges were unacceptable so didn't although I would have put my foot down (or packed the bathroom towels in the case - I'd have given them back LOL) had I realised the sheer inconvenience of their shower room and that they provide no towels!

I do hope you will excuse me but all this talk about rooms and reps and flights and broken toiletseats makes me really curious. Question is: why do a lot of British people use a travel agency (or so it seems to me, correct me if I'm wrong) to book their holiday to Plakias? Is it cheaper that way? I always have the idea that if I do it like that I just pay for the Mercedes of the agency owner............anyway, this is how I did it for the first time this year:
Booked a flight on internet Amsterdam-Heraklion 625 euros for 2 people (440 pounds)
3 Weeks in Olive grove apartments for 700 euros. (490 pounds) Nice apartment, everything works, cleaned daily.
Together 930 pounds for 3 weeks.
Is this expensive in your eyes?
I didn't think so........

Not expensive, but a bit dearer than booking through an operator. Mind you, I do think it's worth paying a bit extra for the choice that booking independently gives you but if booking at the last minute we'd always look for a cheap deal from a tour operator.

Like you I go independently but there is no way I can do it as cheaply as my many friends in Plakias who travel with Kosmar or Olympic. The transfer costs from the airport to Plakias add a significant £112 and are often the deciding financial factor. My basic costs for two weeks (two of us) are (or were) £400 flight, £340 room and if I did not hire a car £112 taxi transfer totalling £852 for 2 people 2 weeks. Kosmar do the same trip for £700

I choose to go independently  because I DO hire a car - which "eliminates" the transfer cost and I stay for 18 days rather tha 14 which is currently possible with some flights (but not travel agencies) and I wish to remain loyal to Stella Pension where we have always stayed. Kosmar do have one set of apartments which are superb and make your costs look expensive.

Hi, Chris H,

A couple of points of information for you:

1.  There are two different business - the "package company", like Kosmar, which provides flights, transfers and accommodation  -- and -- the "travel agency" which sells packages from various companies.  Each business has it's own profit margin in the total cost (the agency has a commission fee built into the package price).

Agencies are supposed to give detailed advice on all consumer aspects of the competing packages, to justify their commission.

Package companies have direct selling websites (which may be cheaper than the agency price.

2.  Package prices as published in brochures are not fixed - the operator can vary the price up or down, as it suits their business.  "Late deals" can be very cheap, if the operator wants to fill the flight and/or accommodation to cover the fixed costs to them.

*****************

For the last five years, we have crawled the internet, looking for the best late deal to the resort(s) we prefer and have typically paid 30% less than the published prices.  However, it helps a lot that we can go when we like and at short notice.

The operators and agencies rely on the families that have to travel during school holidays and push up the prices accordingly.

Until recently, we have not had much choice for independent booking as the only flights available out of Manchester (to Greek Islands) were the package company charter flights, so the flight price was usually close to the package price!

Hello Chris,

I can't better John R's summing up of the financial situation a few posts above this one. I think I am paying about £270 for two weeks next May (Gatwick flight) and as I am going on my own will have single occupancy of a studio. There is no way I could come near that booking independently. As John has said, it is the transfer that is one crucial factor in terms of cost but another is that the tour operators pay a relative pittance to the accommodation owner in comparison to a private booking.

So, on purely financial grounds there is only one choice; however if you want more choice, more flexibility, and possibly a better accommodation then cost will not be your only consideration. You pays your money and ..............

Totally agree Mike, as I've said somewhere else on the board ('Report In', i think), one does get much more choice, independance allows you to book the apartment that you want, more importantly the room that you want, and the flight is at your convienience, but it is more expensive. You pays your money and... you get what you want when you want it!!

Thanks ppl for shining your light on the subject
As some of you state I rather pay a little extra to get exactly what I want, holiday is too important, cannot afford to end up at the wrong place.
Besides, both the misses and me are teaching so we are forced to go in school holidays so no bargain hunting for us
Anyway, only 230 days to go..........

I'm a  single traveller, and have now been home 2 days after a really nice week in Plakias staying at Kostas Chrysoulla.

I have no complaints, the accomodation is basic but really clean, the  cleaner came  in every day, everything worked.
There was a hairdryer, a safe and  air conditioning if needed.

Breakfast at the pool bar was 4 euros. for as much as you liked including coffee, orange juice and when you consider it was 2 euros at most places for a coffee ( Nescafe) was good value.

The pool was very clean The two Kostas were great, and nothing was too much trouble.

The bar was good to go back to after an evening out. No closing time and when it got too late for Kostas  he went home leaving us to it in the bar after making sure we were well stocked with drinks.  (Well, it was 3 am most days before we left !!)
I made some good friends there too.

I wouldn't hesitate to go back,

Jann

It was a fabulous week George, and I was quite happy travelling alone no problems at all.

Plakias is certainly a good place to be on your own too, I didn't feel out of place at all really. Everyone was really helpful and all the tavernas I ate in were great, all of them gave me little starters and sweets and RAKI of course (topped up as many times as you liked) free of charge.  I also always have half a litre of retzina with my meal so you can imagine me staggering back to the KC bar to start on the beer ! (I rarely drink at all usually,  believe it or not. ) But not one hangover it was great .

I also met Kerstin in Harakas when she recognised me and introduced herself it was  lovely to meet her   and the lady owner asked me if I'd been to  Plakias before as she thought she remembered me and my husband !

I made a good friend in another lady on her own too and  we had a few meals out together, also spent a lot of time with 2 other couples who were very kind and great company.

back to reality now    I'm definitely thinking of returning later in the year

ps I should also mention the fantastic Olympic rep Ian. The best rep I have ever encountered, he obviously loves Plakias as much as we do and goes the extra mile to help anyone

Hello Jann,

yes, we are back too. We arrived at home today in the afternoon.
We had a wonderful stay in Plakias. The weather was beautiful and much more hotter as during the last years at the same time.
During the last days we had more than 30 degrees but sometimes it was very humid and we had no wind on the beach.
The sea was very lovely and we enjoyed it every day.
It was very nice to meet you in the Harakas and I am very proud of myself that I said "HELLO" to you because I was not sure
that I saw the right person.

Hi Kerstin,
I am so pleased that you did say hello to me in Harakas,

It was very nice to meet you   and thank you for inviting me to meet you the day after at the beach, but it was the day when it was very very windy and I did not venture far that day.

The airports have been closed again in England  today, due to volcanic ash. I wish  I had gone for 2 weeks as there's a good chance that I would  have been stranded in Plakias

Maybe I will see you next year  Kerstin, it was a lovely time of year to go

Lol.  Actually my OH spent a lot more time with Angelo than I did when we stayed at Kostas (think he spent more time in the bar than in our room!) though I have been back to Plakias on my own since then and it was nice to see Angelo again.  Won't be going back this year as we're going island hopping in the Cyclades, but OH has already said he wants to go back again next year and it won't be the same if Angelo isn't there so I'm glad to hear that he hasn't left.

Hi,
my partner and I have recently booked for our first holiday in Plakias. Thanks very much to all who have posted on these forums, it was a great help in deciding on Plakias and in giving us some information about where to go when we get there.

We will be at Kostas-Chrysoulla for 2 weeks from 31 August. Got a good deal with Olympic a couple of weeks ago, around £325 each from Newcastle. Lucky, as their hols to Kostas were reduced then went off the site a couple of days earlier, so I thought I had missed it. Started looking at travelling independently, but I went back on and the hols at Kostas had reappeared - don't know if they had a cancellation or is there was some sort of system error.

I e-mailed Olympic asking to avoid rooms 56, 62, and 67 (though for all I know 67 is in better nick now - the bad post about it that I found was quite old) and also saying we were happy not to overlook the pool - got a nice e-mail back saying that while they could not guarantee it, they had passed the request on to Kostas.

Maybe bump into some of you while we are there?

Hope you have a great time - I'm sure you will. We arrive soon after you depart so we will look out for your footprints in the sand. You have a very good price there - and from Newcastle as well (our local airport).

Hi Alan

You won't see us at Kostas as we stay at Stella (we go independent). However we eat fairly early every evening at Medousa and frequently move on to Livicon thereafter.

Can anybody tell me the difference at Kostas Chrysoulla between a studio for 1/2 and a studio for 1/3 ?

I realise that it's the number of beds, but I really want to know whether the actual room sizes are different ?

Hi Jann,

The rooms at Kosta Chrysoula vary hugely in terms of size, shape and balcony space.  There is probably a bit of potluck about what you get.  There are three of us so we always book 1/3.  Whatever room you get, it will be clean - rooms are cleaned and bins emptied every day and towels and sheets changed twice a week.  (Came back on Tuesday and already pining....).

Thanks Arnaki, I have stayed at Kostas several times, and have no doubts about anything except that I have only had a 1/2 bed studio before. This time I am sharing with a friend and we are both hoping for a little more space.

I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday, it's awful haing to come back isn't it?

5 weeks to go for my second visit this year  .......................
