Plakias / Plakias 2008
« on: May 22, 2008, 06:16:35 PM »
Efcharisto Mike for your report on Plakias 2008. Much appreciated!
You mention prices not having changed significantly, and quote the price of Raki, but is there any chance you can let this (old) boozer know the price of a bottle of Mythos in the tavernas, and the price of a Kilo of wine in the restaurants as well. I need to work out the budget in advance of my arrival in 12 days time - Woo-Hoo!
Thanks again, I hope it isn't too long before you get back to Plakias.

Love the Monty Python, but am worried by your knowledge of Python. Please tell me you got this from a book of scripts and NOT from memory, if the latter, may I offer my condolencies, and shall I send round Spiny Norman? (in a Killer Car)

PS I mentioned the moderator taking action, not realising there are ways to report it myself, as this forum has never required such action in the past, so I was blissfully ignorant of what to do!

Terzoorso, to answer your second question first, please try the 'Article System' in the top menu, you will find many recommendations for the good selection of Tavernas and bars in Plakias, none that I know of are bad. When I was last there in 2005 (why have I waited so long to come back?) there wasn't a bad meal to be had anywhere, (but how would I know, I was at Siroko for at least 11 nights out of 14)
The Taxi price I do not know, but certainly would like to know, if anyone has the answer, as this year there will be NO TRAIN, and I will be dependent on the taxi to get me to Lefkogia, Souda Bay, Myrthios, and many other watering holes around Plakias .
Only 3 more weeks and I will be there.

Plakias / A not so worrying development
« on: April 08, 2008, 01:45:19 PM »
The sunshine is a bonus! Seriously though, we do go for the weather, last year in Lefkada we had several days of rain, thunderstorms etc., something I had never experienced in Greece before, and this was early June. We are returning to Plakias because we like the quieter atmosphere, the Cretan sun, value for money (exchange rate allowing!), good choice of tavernas, and many other things. I just hope it remains, within reason, as it is.
Me, I am just growing old disgracefully.

Plakias / A not so worrying development
« on: April 05, 2008, 10:54:00 AM »
This is exactly my worry about the lousy exchange rate. Will anyone in Plakias, or the first visitors there, please let us all know the 2008 prices for a large bottle of Mythos, last year in Lefkada I was paying 2 euros, up to 2.5 euros for the large bottle, and wine was between 4 euros and 6 euros for a litre in a restaurant. Will Plakias be as economical?
And, whilst we are about it, what about Ouzo, Raki, Bacardi Grouse................ad infinitum, ad nauseum, ooh my head hurts.

Holiday Companies / Olympic

Are you asking do Olympic still go to Plakias? I hope so as we have had our June holiday booked to Costas since.....last June! I get the impression that now Kosmar have pulled out package places are selling out fast, and the price is rising. There appears to be very little choice left for early June at Costas, only larger room(s) available, maybe other places are the same?
I wonder if Plakias will be its usual quiet self in early June, or has it become more popular?
Ah well, only four months to go, mine's a Mythos, efkharisto poli.

A belated Happy Christmas and a Happy New year to all.
I will not be learning the Greek words for this as it will not be of much use next June.
Maybe Happy Birthday would be of use, as will (hopefully) We (Greece) won the Cup!

Where to eat...or not! / Sirocco
« on: December 26, 2007, 01:12:27 PM »
Back on subject:
PLEASE tell me things have NOT changed, does Babis and his dad still run things? The Siroko was one of the the main reasons we are returning to Plakias this June.
Also, if anyone has any sway with the Alianthos group, can you let them know we are VERY disappointed the Train is no longer running! A pet subject of mine as the day trips were so relaxing, and so close to the sights, smells and sounds of Plakias.

Where to go / Other resorts

We have just returned from 2 weeks in Nidri, Lefkada, June 3rd to 17th. Nice place, and we are returning to Plakias next year, same dates in June. I hope Plakias hasn't changed too much, but it sounds like the prices are rising. Mythos in Nidri was 2 euros, a litre of wine in the least expensive, but obviously popular taverna was 4 euros, and supermarket wine in one and a half litre plastic bottles was 2.20 euros.
If anyone is about to go to Plakias say Yiassas to Babis and his father at the Siroko.
Only 47 weeks to wait.

Plakias / 2007 questions
« on: May 22, 2007, 05:15:17 PM »
I too would like to know about the train. Will it ever be back? It was great for day trips to the Monastry and the gorge, especially the long lunches (can you call 8 Mythos a lunch?) at the village tavernas.

Holiday Companies / Bargain Package

Yes they are selling quick, as of todays date there are only the larger rooms (2/3) left, and the price has risen a bit to £449 for 2 people. Still a good price, I hope I don't water down my Mythos by crying too much.

If anyone is considering a last minute to Plakias, try the Olympic web site ( I know about the Transfers!)
I cannot go myself, but I nearly cried when I saw 2 weeks self catering at the Costas Chryssoula, leaving Gatwick on 5th. June, (good flight), for just £393 PER COUPLE!!!!! Yes under £200 each, including all taxes, duties transfers etc.
GRAB it while you can, and have a Mythos for me when you get there, and say hello (yassou) to Babis at the Sirokko.

Holiday Companies / Why so expensive in September?
« on: August 11, 2006, 07:57:33 PM »
Just a quick addition to my topic - of note to anyone not yet booked for September 26th. 2006 at the Kostas Chrysoulla, Olympic web site has now DROPPED their prices!!!! 1 week self catering, flying from Gatwick on the 09.00 Monarch flight, for 2 people to the Kostas Chrysoulla appts. is now £450! (£225 each, all taxes and sircharges included).
Should be a busy week! Hope they got enough Mythos in Plakias to satisfy the thirsty throng.

Holiday Companies / Why so expensive in September?
« on: June 28, 2006, 05:55:59 PM »
We spent a wonderful 2 weeks in Plakias in June 2005, and were considering a return visit (rare for us) in September 2006. We have been suprised (should that be horrified) by the price Olympic and Kosmar want for 1 week on 26th. Sept. to the Kostas Chrysoulla,  £700 for 2! We only paid slightly more than that for 2 weeks in June, both here and in Lefkada (Lefkas). What is the problem? Is it anything to do with ALL the forum members going out at the same time, (will there be room at the Livicon/Ostracos etc.,)(Will the Mythos supply be sufficient?) Why is it so expensive? We would like to meet up again with Babbis and his Dad from the Sirocco, and watch the sun go down over Souda Bay as we eat (and drink) our meal.
Please help an impoverished (old) couple
