Competition - with prizes!
« on: August 27, 2003, 03:37:26 PM »
Regular members may have noticed that the number of posts on this bulletin board has soared of late.
You may also have noticed that the number of posts is approaching the milestone 1000.

I hereby propose a competition.
To win, you must be the member who posts the 1000th message.
The prize will be 2 bottles of Mythos (provided by me).
I'm sure we'll easily achieve this while Ostraco is away so it should make a nice surprise for him when he gets back.

You didn't think there would not be rules?
Rule 1, The competition is open to members only, not administrators (sorry Andy!).
Rule 2, No silly posts just to get the numbers up.  All posts must have some substance.  I'm sure we can rely on Andy to delete posts which, in the opinion of a quorum of members (shall we say 10?) do not meet this requirement.
Rule 3, ... can't think of any more.

Notes:
To see the total number of posts to date, click 'Plakias Forums' in the top left corner of the screen and scroll down to 'Board Statistics'.  I'm not sure how often this is updated but it seems there is some lag.
To see the number of a particular post, display it on screen and click 'Posted' at the top of the post left of the date and time.

This is post number 973 so we've only got 27 to go...

While we're about it, the Board Statistics say that the most users on-line ever was 18 on the 26th January.
Surely we can beat that?

I'll be on here at 11:00 hours British Summer Time on Friday 29th August 2003.
Come and join me and let's beat that 18 into a cocked hat!

Nice one John.

I'll be there tomorrow at 11. 18 could be tough to beat. How about after our meal next Friday we pile in to Ostraco open 24 IE windows and get everybody to sign in?

Hey, that's an idea Paul.  Mind you, it might be a bit difficult to find 24 who can remember their user names and passwords after the anticipated consumption of Mythos on the night!

I wasn't going to log on whilst away, as I wanted to keep as much of the real world away, but I figured, hey I sit and type here all the year, why not actually send a post whilst IN Plakias.
Mind you I only logged onto this site and daren't log in to anything else, otherwise my 4 Euros worth of time would have tripled easily.....

Enjoy whatever

Neil

Well John - it was a great idea offering the bottles of mythos for the 1000th posting but it looks like we'll need to login while in Plakias if we want to win them - bad timing. Mind you, I suppose we will be in the best place to drink them!

Not at all Graham and Karen.

You are the millenium poster!

Congratulations to you, to Ostraco for starting such a successful board and to John and Andy for doing such a good job running it.

Here is the millenium post.

You will be able to claim your prizes at the Plakias Forums Inaugural Plakias dinner meeting next Friday at the Medousa taverna.

Sorry I was late but I guess no records were broken at 11am. First the PC insisted on checking the hard disk, then it started installling a new print driver!

Heh - I've just realised - I've won! understood your earlier post
Quite a surprise as the counter on my PC has always shown fewer postings than actual. So there are some advantages of being 5 hours behind UK time.

Unfortunately not, that record of 18 will stand for some time I would imagine.

Ahh good old PCs, you can always rely on them to do things you dont want and vice versa!

Thanks Andy and John (Compage). This site has been very useful and the info I've picked up has given us lots of ideas about where to go and what to see. Maybe, once we've been to Plakias a few times, I'll be able to contribute more.
