Plakias Weather

As many of you already know, Nikos at Medousa maintains a Weather Station for the National Observatory of Athens.

You can find the uploaded data here.

It has been a bit patchy recently and is not currently updating.

Anyway being the sad individual that I am, I also maintain a Weather Station here in Whitton, West London and one for my father in Ilfracombe, Devon.

So I thought I would do a comparison between the 3 locations to see who is the warmest, coldest, windiest, wettest etc.
The results aren't hugely surprising!

If you are interested in the data I have attached two spreadsheets here for the last two years, there are different worksheets in the spreadsheets.
It should be fairly self-explanatory if you look at them.

Taking 2014 as an example (as 2015 is missing some data for December in Plakias) we see that:

Highest Average (whole day) - Plakias 361, Whitton 4
Highest Max - Plakias 330, Whitton 30, Ilfracombe 4
Lowest Min - Whitton 211, Ilfracombe 153, Plakias 1
Windiest (Average) - Plakias 211, Whitton 129, Ilfracombe 24*
Wettest - Whitton 171, Ilfracombe 135, Plakias 59
* Anenometer placement not good, windier in reality.

Nothing hugely surprising there.

Though it doesn't tell the whole story, you need to look at the detail.

For example in Jan/Feb 2015 Plakias had an incredible 700mm+ of rain, way more than my total for the year.

I need to update the spreadsheets with sheets for rain and wind, i'll get around to that sometime.

Interesting stuff Paul. I live in Hertfordshire and I suspect that in virtually every year Plakias has a higher total annual rainfall than here. Fortunately this doesn't usually come when I'm there!
