Many thanks for your compliments.

Yes, we are closer to Crete.
With a non-stop-flight it takes us 2 hours and 30 minutes, but we should not talk about the prices.
Our flights are much more expensive as your flights.

At the moment we have minus 11 degrees and the snow is everywhere.
Sometimes driving is very difficult but we must live therewith.

(... 5 months until out next holiday in Plakias... it is very long time until the 2nd of May, 2011.)

Errrrrrrrrrrr,  Yes I will please? proper snow! German beer! Nice people! good food!

              Barny.

Barny? Are you sure? Do you would like the snow and the coldness?
Nice people... everybody should make its own experiences.
Beer... sorry, but I do not like beer. Otherwise you could taste a lot of sorts. Do you like bright or dark beer?
Food... the German cuisine is very different to the English one.

Kerstin
... and I am sorry, if there are any mistakes.

I think we have had nearly a centimetre this week!
Can I go to Plakias then?

             Barny.

Barny, our airport is open. But at the moment there are no non-stop-flights from Leipzig to Heraklion.

BTW: In the meantime we have 30 centimetre snow with around minus 10 degrees.
Do you want to change the places?

Spottttt - My (and several others') understanding is that the end 'shower' is allowed to run continuosly so that the water in the pipe doesn't get scaldingly hot. Maybe not a strong arguement at the moment but makes sense in the height of summer.

Both showers have worked in the same way during our stay and we enjoyed it every day.
Personally, I do not like the end "shower" because there are so much bees and I am allergic against a bite of bees.
Therefore I avoid to go to this shower.

One of the things I haven't seen mentioned by those who have already been to Plakias in 2010 is how the development adjacent to the Palegremnos is progressing.

e.g. is it finished, is it occupied, and (most importantly) has it changed the character of the far end?

Does anyone have photos or, better still, a video clip?

Mike

We also made pictures from "new development". During all days they worked on several buildings.
Some of the buildings have got blinds, windows, doors and so on...

Where to stay / Pelagrinos new build ?

Hi Daniel

If you could post them it would really be appreciated. I stay at the Paligremnos and I would like to know how this affects the accomodation i.e. does it spoil the view from the balcony, are they going to working on it when we are there etc. It was bad enough having to put up with the construction of the complex nearby, let alone something right on your doorstep so to speak.

Thanks

Susan

At the beginning of our holiday we made to following picture and at the end the building had a 2nd floor.

Zak has just published his prices for 2009.

Taxi from Heraklion to Plakias last year was 85 Euro. This year 95 Euro.

For each way we used Zach's service and we were very satisfied.

Yesterday we have seen the prices for petrol and diesel. For petrol you would have to pay around 1,60 until 1,65 Euro
and for Diesel around 1,30 Euro. And these prices will increase during the next weeks. Probably for petrol until 1,80 Euro.

A week is not enough is it Jann? Glad you enjoyed it though, maybe have another week later on in the year eh?
How did you find the travelling alone and being alone? Plakias is the kind of place that makes you feel at home and you can make friends very quickly as you obviously did if you were still around at 3.00am

george...

It was a fabulous week George, and I was quite happy travelling alone no problems at all.

Plakias is certainly a good place to be on your own too, I didn't feel out of place at all really. Everyone was really helpful and all the tavernas I ate in were great, all of them gave me little starters and sweets and RAKI of course (topped up as many times as you liked) free of charge.  I also always have half a litre of retzina with my meal so you can imagine me staggering back to the KC bar to start on the beer ! (I rarely drink at all usually,  believe it or not. ) But not one hangover it was great .

I also met Kerstin in Harakas when she recognised me and introduced herself it was  lovely to meet her   and the lady owner asked me if I'd been to  Plakias before as she thought she remembered me and my husband !

I made a good friend in another lady on her own too and  we had a few meals out together, also spent a lot of time with 2 other couples who were very kind and great company.

back to reality now    I'm definitely thinking of returning later in the year

ps I should also mention the fantastic Olympic rep Ian. The best rep I have ever encountered, he obviously loves Plakias as much as we do and goes the extra mile to help anyone

Hello Jann,

yes, we are back too. We arrived at home today in the afternoon.
We had a wonderful stay in Plakias. The weather was beautiful and much more hotter as during the last years at the same time.
During the last days we had more than 30 degrees but sometimes it was very humid and we had no wind on the beach.
The sea was very lovely and we enjoyed it every day.
It was very nice to meet you in the Harakas and I am very proud of myself that I said "HELLO" to you because I was not sure
that I saw the right person.

Thank you Dave and Les

I'm getting quite excited now, only 5 more days to wait    and good to hear your stay at KC was good.

I've waited a long time to go back to Plakias it really is a special place,  it must be good to have a forum dedicated to it. I agree it is brilliant and everyone has been so helpful putting up with all my questions

Maybe I'll see some of you if I return later in the year

Jann

Hello Jann,
our flights are confirmed and we will leave Germany on Sunday in the morning.
On Saturday we have to pack our bags and we will arrive in Plakias on Sunday around 2 p.m.
We wait for our 6th stay in Plakias and we hope to meet some friends which we met during the last years.
Once more we stay in Castello.
Maybe... see you soon.

Am really getting worried about my flight now

Jann,

I agree with you.
Our flights are booked for the 2nd of May. Accomodation and taxi transfer are arranged
and now, we are not sure what happens during the next two weeks.
All airports in Germany were closed with no end in sight. We should not give up the hope.

Barny,

the nearest airport would be Leipzig/Halle.
http://www.leipzig-halle-airport.de/en/ind...?newLanguage=en
Unfortunately, it is impossible to travel with Ryanair to Leipzig.

We have an other airport which is very small.
http://www.leipzig-altenburg-airport.de/indexen.shtml
When I remember you can fly from London/Stansted to Altenburg with Ryanair.

Both airports are very close to Leipzig.

Barny, please be sure, you can find many good hotels in our town and the prices are very different.
At first you can have look on: http://www.leipzig.de
This website is also available in English. The direct link does not work at the moment.

If you need further information of course I want to help you. At the moment it is very difficult
to recommend a special hotel. We have so many hotels and it depends on your demands.

By the way: May I be your guide in Leipzig? Or better it would be a good opportunity to meet you
and your wife.

Byebye for now,
Kerstin
