Plakias / A not so worrying development
« on: October 12, 2007, 06:21:23 PM »
Hello,

I have read your article.

Now, many hours later, because I had to think about it.

At frist we love Plakias, the quietness, the ambience and all the people which spend there holidays in Plakias.

According to your article:
My personal opinion... all things which you describe: it is only advertising and I see the direction: Time sharing.
(something like Hapimag/Damnoni)

I cannot imagine that you will sell all these "villas". We saw so many other projects in other countries
(for instance in Portugal or Spain). And today, these buildings are vacant and nobody is interested in.

Greetings from Germany,
Kerstin.

Plakias / In the middle of nowhere?

During our holidays at the beginning of May an employee from Anso Travel told us that the new harbour would be a safe port for all boats.
As I remember he said it depends on the strong wind. He said also, if the wind is too strong (during the winter months) than the boats must get
out from the sea. I think the wind direction is an important part.

I hope that I found the right words and you can understand it.

Hi all

I'll be driving from Chania Airport this year for the first time, what are the road signs like from the airport to get you back onto the main highway and heading for Rethymnon?
It's just getting onto the main highway really, once I'm on it I'll be ok!

Thanks for any input

george g...

I had a look on the road map. We went from the Chania Airport to Souda. From the airport there is only one mainroad to Chania.
All the buses of the travel agencies use this road. You have to drive towards Souda. You can not miss it and than you must use
the road No. E 75 until Rethymnon.
I am sure, you will get a detailled road map from your car rental.

Greeetings,
Kerstin

2.  Souda/Chania was 42c. .... that's one helluva temperature gradient in such a short distance.

It's quite possible for the temperature to vary by that much in such a short distance. I recently went by bus from Rathymnon to Iraklion. I was watching the thermometer in the bus and it went down by about 5 digrees and then back up again in that distance.

Greecemad

I can agree with greecemad.
As we arrived on the 05/05/07 we went by our car from Chania to Rethymnon and than to Plakias and the temperature was very different.
On our date of departure (19/05/07) we started in Plakias in the afternoon and it was raining and raining again, we had only 17 degrees.
As we arrived on the north coast (Rethymnon) the rain stopped and we had 24 degress. As we arrrived in the old town of Chania we had
approx. 30 degrees and it was very hot and hymiditiy was extreme. (But we had a nice afternoon in Chania, before we went to the airport).
I think the mountains keep the weather sometimes away and therefore it is so much different.

Gossip / Naturist Beaches

There are more nude peoplea the the far end than I've ever seen before. They go all the way from the second beach bar to the end and almost all sunbeds are full. There is still enough room for those of use who want to put a beach mat on the sand though.

I've sunbathed today on Mikro Ammoudhi, Ammoudhi (yes, with a greek couple) and Skinara. From Ammoudhi to  Skinaria I found a better path than before. I couldn't find the cairns as in Harribobbs instructions, but from Ammoudhi I followed a track up to the left then a path across a field on the right, then it's easy to follow the path.

I hope to find the right words and I am not sure about the grammatic ...  rolleyes:

The Far End:
When I remember, last year and the year before there were the sunbeds in three rows. And this year we had only two rows.
At the beginning of our holidays (05/05-19/05/07) we were nearly alone on the beach and there were enough sunbeds.

During the last 4 or 5 days the Far End was most frequently visited and if we came later then 10 o'clock in the morning
there were no or not enough sunbeds available. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask Freddy about this.

PlakChat / Credit cards

12 days to go before we visit Plakias for the first time. We can't wait. In the meantime, I have a very practical question for those of you who have been to Plakias recently. Can you pay with credit cards in bars, restaurants and shops in Plakias ? Thanks in advance for any advice given.

We had no problems to use our credit cards.
Sometimes we could only use the VISA-Card and not the MASTERCARD. Not all restaurants accept the MASTERCARD.

i didn't see one truck in two weeks

I am writing with a wonderful smile on my face...
What are you thinking about the possibility: The truck drivers were on holidays too?

Its such a peaceful spot I shall be very disappointed if we have lorries thundering past.....I shall report when we get back.

Hello Alison,

at the moment I do not know where you will stay during your holidays.
Our apartment was situated behind the Alianthos Garden and therefore we could not hear and see the lorries.
Of course from the Far End you will see the lorries but this is certainly no problem. They are far away.
In the evening the traffic was totally normal. You can sit in the Tavernas or Bars and it will be "quiet".

I would say, enjoy your time in Plakias.

Greetings
Kerstin

(By the way I hope you can understand the sentences, because it is a little bit difficult to find the right words.)

At first, I want to say "HELLO" to all of you and also "SORRY" if my English is not perfect.
(It is a long time ago that I have learnt your language.)

During our 3rd stay in Plakias at the beginning of may, we have already seen the lorries on the small roads through the village.
They did not start very early in the morning, but all the day over.

Many greetings from Germany
Kerstin
