Plakias / Re: Old Plakias postcard

http://The Livicon then was a popular backpackers cafe. The entrance to the rooms was makeshift bank and the only place that Access cards could be used.

Having a good think I have come to the conclusion that this must be 1976. Although I cannot see the original bakery so 1970 may be a better guess.

I love this place and have been  there off and on for well over 20  years.

Sometimes if Manoussos is a bit off colour or rushed off his feet then the service and food becomes slightly ecccentric.

Despite this they come bouncing back and after a winter break I am sure they will all reach full steam soon.

Never had a bad meal there and If I do make it to Plakias in May 2016 that is the very first place I will go to eat.

Looking forward to it already.  Greek food as it should be. :)

Heather.

Hello,
I am writing this on behalf of my mother, Heather,(travellingran) as she is still unable to manage this following her stroke.

Heather asks me to pass on how very sorry to hear of the death of Freddie who she remembers very well. Also Frieda , if Chris would pass on her sincere condolences .  Mum said ' Oh , dear Freddie , such a terrible loss .

Heather will , I am sure , post further as small steps are being made to at least be able to type.

Thankyou , Chris, .

For and on behalf of Heather ,  Louise.

If all else fails then try Abe Books. Usually find they have the most obscure or out of print tomes.

Plakias / Re: Plakias bicycle hire
« on: May 09, 2012, 06:13:04 PM »
Hi The anso site dosent seem to have any prices ..has anyone any idea roughly how much it is to hire a fairly ordinary (street) bike  for a week please ?
Was the one that has closed down in the same street as the fish and chip shop?
Thanks

Easy ride is the same cycle hire shop next door to the 'Fish and Chips'. I rented a bike there for years ( I recall his name may have been Achille. )

Four years ago however I turned up as usual to find he had moved to Austria.

Much missed though as he always had a terrific choice and frame sizes.  Since then I have stayed at Rowena and Carl's apartment where their own pushbikes are available. Rowena's bike was great but............ Rowena is tall and I am not. ( I did notice that a lot of privately owned bikes were Ex Easy Rider and obviously their stock has been sold.
So having tried to ride Rowenas enormous bike and failed miserably I have since then valiantly given up.
I am full of hope that another person will start hiring them out soon.

I still have old Easy Rider receipts and he charged me 67Euro for 7 days four years ago. Always extra though for child seats , baskets etc.,. May be you can use these prices as a rough guide.

Good Luck,
Heather.

All these rorst dishes sound quite delicious - I am wondering, though,  where would one stick the skewer ?

What a relief to read that the cledit cards are not precocious,   quite comforted to hear this.

Goody! We both now have Kindles and so our suitcases when we visit Plakias in September will have loads of potential space as we wont be taking the usual library of books (usually about 10 paperbacks). The down side is that space will probably be filled with more shoes for Sandra.

Hello,

Just sorting out my final book list.  On my Kindle I have :- Jerusalem: The Biography by Simon Sebag Mentefiore.  Life by Keith Richards . Smut by Alan Bennett.
A few paperbacks namely Gore Vidal , Palimpsest , a memoir.
Victor Pritchett, Collected stories.
Lord Denning , The Discipline of Law.  Some chiklit .  In addition of course is the excellent Plakias library. Will be there for a month this time so plenty of time for a good read.

Hope Jann enjoyed her trip this time and Kerstin and Peter likewise. Staying  again at Rowena and Carl's great apartment at Panorama.
Heather.

Lord Denning "The Discipline of Law". That sounds a bit heavy going!

Tony,

It is rather . Should keep me quiet and well out of mischief though !!

Heather.
