PlakChat / Re: Strategic flights in doubt?
« on: October 05, 2012, 01:49:36 PM »
From the Olympic site

10:00 - 03 October 2012
Olympic Holidays regrets to announce that as a result of information provided by Strategic Airlines it has felt compelled to end its flying contract with Strategic and to arrange for the remainder of its summer 2012 flying programme which was to have been carried out by Strategic Airlines, to be provided by other carriers.
These are: Aegean Airlines (which already provides flights for Olympic Holidays); Travel Services (an airline with a growing reputation in the Czech Republic); and an Italian airline Livingston Air. Flight timings are little changed and all clients should proceed to their departure airports as normal and use the tickets that have already been sent to them. Clients departing from London Gatwick will be travelling on a Livingston (flight code JN) flight at the same time and from the same terminal (South) as their original Strategic flight; clients departing from Manchester will be flying with Travel Services (flight code SQ) from the same terminal (2) and at the same time as their original Strategic flight.
We wish to emphasise that any change applies only to clients who have booked travel arrangements which include flights with Strategic Airlines (flight code STU). All other flights are completely unaffected.
For more information about Travel Updates call us on 0844 499 0077 or e-mail us here.

Not 100% the same but cross-ownership. Todays Skiathos flight from Gatwick still shown as delayed but return fight to Gatwick shown as cancelled. This airline certainly seems to have serious problems and most of this seasons 'strategic' flights that have operated have been flown by sub-contract airlines

Well the Strategic flights started this week but did not cover themselves with glory. The Manchester flight left Tesday but over 12 hours late. The gatwick flight did not leave until Wednesday, 24 hours late. I hope at least passengers were put up in hotels but at Gatwick  Tues evening they were still giving out departure times later that day.

I think you mean Easyride, if so this no longer trades but its assets were taken over by Anso

My "other" holiday is to Kos with Olympic, with an early morning Gatwick flight, returning late afternoon. The airline wasn't Strategic but not a name I had heard of. They have now changed the airline to "Small Planet Airlines" and it now departs late afternoon but the return time is approximately the same.

As the return to the UK flight will take the next holidaymakers back to Kos it presumably means that the airline is based outside the UK.

This isn't too inconvenient for me but means I miss my first evening in resort.

Lampyland, is your Strategic flight Gatwick or Manchester?

Mike

Small Planet Airlines is a Lithuanian charter airline flying 737-300 (think Thomson in Britannia days) from the UK.

I am interested in the Strategic way of doing things, so thanks for the info.
A couple of questions: Did the transfer include all the numerous drop offs along the north coast, and, importantly, what time did you arrive in Plakias? (I am assuming you were on the 11.25 flight from Gatwick)
Airbus A40 I do not know, I suspect it was an A320/319, was the seating plan 3+3 with one centre aisle?, or maybe it was their A300, with 2 aisles and a lot more seats?
Can you tell me what the price of a 500 ml bottle of Mythos was in any of the tavernas/bars.

Hope you had a good time, I will be there in June

THe only aircraft Strategic have registered in Luxenburg are 3 X A320

Olympic website now showing flights operated by Strategic Airlines.
They are an Australian company!
The plot thickens.

Not good news if this quote taken from an airline pilots forum is true

"Just heard that Olympic have secured two aircraft from Strategic Airlines for their summer programme.

Strategic Airlines, isn't that the airline which had its French AOC revoked by the DGAC on safety grounds ? Seems the airline had a few Kelloggs cornflakes tokens left and traded them in for an AOC in Luxembourg. The French market is understandably up in arms and fails to understand how Luxembourg could possibly grant an AOC to Strategic, just weeks after the French CAA had revoked their French AOC."

Olympic obviously did find an airline that thought their rates were acceptable! "

Plakias / Aegean to merge with olympic
« on: February 21, 2010, 09:33:27 AM »
Reports from Greece suggest the the above merger is about to be announced, probably tomorrow.

Bad news IMHO Olympic should have been put out of its misery long ago and not drag down another airline

Turn right at the taverna at Souda then left at the telegraph pole. I ended up in someones garden a couple of years ago

george...

About 3 years ago they demolished the old bridge over the stream at souda, it was great fun clambering down and then
up the other side with a bike, but the bridge was soon rebuilt.

Cycling is no problem on a MTB, but is unsuitable for a hybrid, there was a chainlink 'gate' and a barrel dog half way along, but no
other real problems. (except the dog kept spilling the water we put in his bowl in his excitement at seeing visitors)

Agents :-   Flydeals.co.uk have sent details of Kunapark Ltd and many more whose booking agents they use.

Do you mean Flydeals or Kunapark have ceased trading?

Kunapark have ceased trading. The Flydeals website lists all affected companies.
www.flydeals.co.uk. They advise anyone with a booking with any of those to contact their tour company or booking agent. That's really all the email said, Susan. A bit vague but try it.

Had another email stating that Flydeals trading as Kahuna have ceased trading. They seem to be as confused as we are now. I will email my usual longhaul agency and ask them. They are Travelbag and Trailfinders and may know what is going on. I don't have any forthcoming travel with any on the website list thank goodness but many others may have.

Kunapark has gone bust, it traded under several names including-

flydeals.co.uk

hot4holidays.co.uk and

luxuryholidaymaker.co.uk

Hope this clarifies things.

Plakias / Draught Beer
« on: June 24, 2009, 05:47:32 PM »
I do not think the thread starter was expecting Greek "real ale", but en pression alternatives to the freely available bottled beers. I agree that British ale is unique, but somehow I like to be deprived whilst abroad, so that the first pint on returning tastes that much better!
[/quote]

If you read the OP he/she states that they do not like Keg or bottled beers as thay are too gassy, so not 'en pression'
