I wonder if this thread is a new record for the number of posts?
Paul, aren't you the record holder?

You're a mind-reader John I was just thinking about that. Yes I think I started the record thread on the old board. That would of been back in August 2001, cant remember how many replies it go though.

It is now 9:40pm Plakias time and I hope you are all having a great time.

I definately feel jealous that you couldn't wait 4 more days to have your get together - that is when we arrive.

Mind you - there is always the chance that you will have a hangover in the morning while I am at work - lol.

Hopefully, you'll have left a couple of bottles of Amstel with the caps on for the rest of us.

Γεια μασ σε ολουσ σασ!!

Well, I must say that I was pleased (not to say relieved) with the inaugural Plakforms meet-up in Plakias.
The staff at at Medousa could not have been more helpful, offering to make any special dishes we wanted and organising a table big enough to seat 24.
The turn-out was quite good too.  We ended up with 20 for dinner, only one party (who shall remain nameless) letting us down.

We started at 9 p.m. and didn't leave Medousa until after midnight.  By that time we were the only people left in the taverna and I suspect that Babis was wondering if we'd ever leave!
Most of us then moved on to Ostraco downstairs for another 3 hours or so.
The die-hards apparently kept going until almost 6 a.m.!

It was great to meet such a lot of the Plakias Forums users and they all turned out to be really nice people.  Valerie and me met several of them again later in our holiday and we even had two lunches with members.

Many pictures were taken that night and and here are a few from my camera.  If anyone wants theirs published too, drop me a line.

Since everyone seemed to consider it a success, I suggest we make a date for the next one, as this year, on the Friday after the first Tuesday in September.
We may be as well to choose a different taverna next time as Medousa is in a quiet part of town and I suspect that our noisy chatter was somewhat disturbing to those nearby who had retired early.
My nomination is Sofia.

What a great set of photos. I've printed out that one of Babis taking an order and will give it to him when we meet up with him on 1st October. Will demand free meals as commission   . Countdown now underway. There will be a plakform meeting every night at Medousa comprising two of us for the following 14 days

Good stuff John, I shall forward my photos on to you. Any particular size you want them or shall I send the originals?

Once again, cheers for organising a great night, look forward to next year.

Ideally, they should be no more than 800 wide and 600 high and in jpg or gif format.
However, if you don't have editing facilities you can just send the originals.
Mine have all been edited by cropping and size reduction as the originals are 2048x1536 and up to 1 Mb in size.
Feel free to download any that you'd like to keep and if anyone wants the original unedited version just let me know and I'll email them.

JohnR, perhaps you could let me know how Babis felt about our late finish and noise?

Yes  -I'll have a chat with Babis (we know him well now). I don't see a big problem. Last year we were late(ish) to bed (after midnight) on quite a few occasions and we have to pass Medousa on the way back to our accommodation. Frequently there were still plenty of people lingering at Medousa.

Thanks John but it isn't just that we were still there after midnight.  It is that there were 20 of us all talking at once and, at times, I think we were pretty noisy.

Just finished editing this year's batch of pictures and I've put them here if you'd like to see them.  There are only one or two more of members who attended the Plakforms Meet on 5th September but there are quite a few general views of Plakias.

Note the picutes of of Ali, Dave and their shop and of Leftheris and his 'extra vitamina' doughnuts.  There are also a few taken outside Plakias such as ones of Agia Galini, Festos and the Messara plain.

Those are just great photos of Plakias. I thought I was ok with a camera but you really know what you are doing. They are the best Photos I have seen for really giving the true atmosphere of the place. Anyone not familiar (and familiar of course) and wanting to get the right impression must view them. I'll be printing the one of Denis, Livicon - another good friend of ours so as to surprise, tease and please him on 1st October. This is making our final countdown pleasant but diffficult - going to be a long 10 days now.

What is you camera - digital I assume. I'll be trying my 4 mill pix job for first time there this year.

Well that's very kind of you John but I'm only an amateur.  Yes, they were taken with a digital camera.  A Hewlett Packard 715.  These pictures have all been edited for content and to reduce the file size.  They were then further compressed to about one tenth of their original size.  So the original images have much higher quality.  If you want any of the originals send me a message and I'll email them.

This visit to Plakias I particularly wanted to get pictures of the town so that I could refer back to them in the future.  Just wish I'd done it in 1991.

Good luck with your new camera.  You'll probably get even better results.

Did anyone get a picture of Freddy who looks after the beds and brollies at the far end?  In particular, one of him and Leftheris the doughnut man?
