Where to go / Re: Triopetra beach
« on: July 22, 2016, 01:30:17 AM »
Triopetra is a lovely beach, has a great beach bar/ cafe and two good Tavernas. Swimming very good too. Catch it while it's still unspoilt, a huge all inclusive is planned to be built just behind the beach. You can drive down to Ligres beach first which has two excellent Tavernas and an old watermill. As you face the beach and to your right are a series of excellent beaches that you can walk as far as Agia Fotini. If you take road back up hill a bit you can drive all the way to Triopetra and the road runs behind the beach.

Dominick is a really nice chap. He told us that he found Plakias too quiet and felt lonely as the only Rep in the area and does not drive.
We took him out to dinner to a rural Taverna with fantastic food and regailed him with tales of Plakias and Crete in the Hippy days. So probably our fault.
Moving on to Kefalonia tomorrow. If he found Plakias quiet he may be in for a shock and Kefalonia has an extremely limited Bus service for getting about. Hopefully he will be in the more bucket and spade resorts of Lassi or Skala which are the busiest.
We really wish him the best, a lovely approachable and helpful Rep.

So on to Tom. Where was he before or is he new to Olympic?

Where to go / Re: Preveli beach
« on: July 07, 2016, 04:48:10 PM »
Take the usual road as far as the old bridge and Taverna Gefyra, go past the Taverna and follow the long bumpy track which has occasional useful signs saying preveli rooms and palm beach. Eventually after an interesting bouncy and dusty journey you will reach Drimiskiano ammoudi beach. Do not bother with Preveli Rooms, but try Dionysos Tavern instead ( try both if you like but I think you will prefer food, setting and friendliness).
There is a good path directly from the Taverna to Preveli beach and another from the large car park of Preveli Rooms. A much better way to walk to Preveli beach, not long and far better than the 400 plus steps down from the Preveli beach car park.
You can also rent a pedalo to make the journey from one beach to the other.
A few sunbeds and enjoyable swimming from Drimiskiano ammoudi beach.
There is also a good unpaved road along the coast from here to other beaches.
Good luck.

« on: June 12, 2016, 08:21:24 PM »
Ah yes you are a little outside Plakias and will need a vehicle. Not a bad position as you are close to the turning for Damnoni beach which has accessible Tavernas. There is a new tarmac road as you drive towards Plakias, a left turn down to Paligremnos, otherwise known as the "Far End".Lovely beach bar and Paligremnos Taverna and all on the flat.

One of our Forum members also has mobility problems and  a Plakias regular. I  am sure she will have some good tips. I have some further suggestions. Souda beach has two excellent tavernas both with good parking as does Damnoni beach with five tavernas. Mariou village has a great Taverna belonging to the Violakis family and a fantastic view and food. It also has its own car park. I recommend you eat here at least once on your holiday. I know the poor driver cannot have more than one drink but can always have a drink when back in Plakias. Where are you staying?  We can think of more solutions once we know.

Very easy to add photos on the forum.. I use Imgur http://m.imgur.com/upload
Then just click on the Mona Lisa Icon on the message screen on the forum which gives img][img
Then paste the web address of the image uploaded to Imgur in the center of img]center[/img. Saves space on forum site. There must be a way of a smaller image size on Imgur. Images look fine on my Laptop and the large screen on my home PC...they do not scale well on mobile devices.

Sorry for awful translation. Looks like plans for new pavement on both sides of the road from the Alianthos to the start of Souda beach road. That will make tables and chairs outside Ostraco difficult.
You can read it here , sorry for using autotranslate, did not have time to do a proper job.

In the same study commissioned by the municipality to researcher Maria Kythreotou, including the tourist area of Plakias, in order to make it more functional, for the visitors and emerged with aesthetic interventions all along the coastline from the edge of Alianthos up and the road leading to Souda.

Specifically, the study, which cost 20,000 euros, has already been completed, and after getting approval from the relevant departments will be submitted to the Managing Authority, after opening the respective axes of the new ESPA, claiming funding of 2.5 about mil. Euro for the implementation of interventions.

According to the mayor, the scheme established is eligible based on their routes as they have become known so far. In particular, John Tatarakis , speaking on "P. N." reported: " The documentation of the study is in the process of final approval. What we need for the area of Plakias is a signature-approval of the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities. While waiting for the declaratory act of the Region of Crete for the school of Lefkogia and we are ready to throw in the application for planning permission on at flea markets we plan to do in Lefkogia school.

As regards the forest of Saint John, we already have the approval of the program contract from the Forest and await final approval by the Region of Crete. This is an area of 440 square meters, which will be utilized for the benefit of children and youth of the village and will provide a cell culture, while can host a series of cultural and not just actions. Also, money from these legacies will be the emergence of the old village tap -a historical monument Sellion- beside which lies a tree 100 years. This is a point registered in the village, which once exploited and emerged could contribute decisively to the further development of the site by increasing traffic in the area.

It is noted that the studies for the implementation of these two projects funded by the parish of Saddles, because by law it is not possible to exploit the legacies of money for studies.

Recall that these are gifts of Peter Koufaki and Stratis Papadakis . Their desire was how that would arise from the sale of the property be given to the village and exploited in the best way possible for its inhabitants.

The budget for both projects amounts to 440,000 euros. " We have already sent the ministry a declaratory act for the school, which we received from the region and we expect the Government Gazette, which I believe will soon be published and I think next month we will be ready to go to auction," he said speaking in "P.
