HOTEL OASIS/PLAIAS
« on: August 15, 2003, 01:31:42 PM »
We are planning a holiday for 2 weeks in hotel Oasis in Plakias.
Is this a nice hotel?
Is it true that it is always very windy in Plakias?
We would like to go the first 2 weeks of october.
Is there a fridge in the room?

Don't know about the hotel and fridge availability, but the winds should have died down by then, unless you are unlucky enough to experience a south wind.

We have been going for the last few years in the 1st two weeks in October. Weather usually good. Might get a bit of rain. Last year there were heavy storms in the evenings which were entertaining rather than a problem. It can be windy but not usually for long.

Oasis is nice - never stayed there but I know others who have and I have stopped for a drink there . It is though well out of the village , at the top of the steep hill on the cross roads near the petrol station .That makses it within walking distance of Damnoni - where the beaches are glorious - and walkable down to Plakias but it is a steep up hill walk back esp at migh after a few beers !

We stayed at the apartments next door to the Hotel last year, I can confirm it wasn't the easiest of walks after a few beers. The last bit uphill was a killer. The hotel looked very nice and it had a lovely pool which was always quiet.  Although it is a way out of town, it was really quiet and peaceful.

It's 13 years since I stayed at the Oasis - it was block-booked by SunMed then. It didn't have a swimming pool so I guess it's probably changed a lot. What hasn't changed is its position and I have to agree with others that the climb up the hill after several beers on a warm night is a killer.

We have stayed at the Oasis, on at least 8 occassions- it is lovely, the hosts Nikos and Maria are very accommodating, nothing is too much trouble- ever.

We always have the ground appartment, which does have a fridge, so does the 1st floor apartment. The rooms do not have fridges, but they can be hired.

We have done the walk up the hill  lots of times, it is quite nice, at least it gives you a chance to walk of all thoes extra calories, that we all put on while we are on our regular stay.

We have stayed in Plakias at the latter end of October, and we had lovely weather, but we all know how it can change from day to day, but I would certainly go back again in October.

We are sure that you will find Oasis and Plakias both lovely.

If you have any further questions about the Oasis, you could always e-mail Maria, the e-mail can be found on the interkriti website, under accomodation.

Well Cherly has not been around for some time now, decided to move back to England. unfortunately for Nikos, Maria has also decided that life in Crete is not for her, so Nikos is alone again but the business still goes on, thankfully for us, because we go back each year.  We have already booked for 3 weeks next year staying with Nikos at the Oasis. this will be 7th year in a row, so that is that must say something for Nikos, Oasis and of course Plakias.

Regards

Martin,

I do not know Cheryl's surname, but I may be able to find out. My mother in law kept in contact with Cheryl when she moved back to the England (Oxford area).

If I can find out more information I will let you know.
