Kalimera, yesterday there was another article in neakriti that work is progressing at a satisfactory pace (the residents of Kotsifou Gorge certainly see it differently).

?Specialised teams in the Kotsifou Gorge are working feverishly for the project delivery. The road has already been built, the technical part for the drainage of the water is finished, the cleaning of the rocks has been completed and the installation of the special grids remains.?

Kalimera, in the neakriti of 18.10. there was an article about the current construction work in the Kotsifou Gorge. The special team from the mainland is making good progress. The road and the riverbed have been cleared of debris from the landslide. Work is now beginning to secure the rocks with metal nets. One rock is also to be removed.

A date for the reopening, a release for car traffic was not mentioned.

Plakias / "Overtourism" in the Kourtaliotiko gorge
« Last post by kokkinos vrachos on September 12, 2024, 11:09:47 AM »
Kalimera, there have been some newspaper articles in the local media in the last few weeks about ?overtourism? in the Kourtaliotiko gorge (NATURA2000 area).

A big problem is the crowds, there are no toilets and a lot of rubbish is left in the gorge,

The movement to protect the springs of Kourtalioti is fortunately very active and there is a FB group: SOS PLAKIAS #SavePreveli

Plakias / Re: Souda beach no longer naturist
« Last post by kokkinos vrachos on September 12, 2024, 10:05:07 AM »
Kalimera, I was in Souda/Plakias from 29 September to 13 November 2023 and during this time almost half of the beach was nudist.

At the far end of Paligremnos beach by the dunes was also naturist as usual.

Where to go / Re: Mirthios/Myrthios Tavernas
« Last post by kokkinos vrachos on September 11, 2024, 09:42:23 AM »
The village of Mirthios/ Myrthios is just above Plakias and has a few shops and four Tavernas I know of. The Plateia, The Panorama, Dionyssos and Vrisi.

Kalimera, madness, now the 5th Taverna has opened in the small village of Mirthios/Myrthios. In May, the Taverna Kapilio opened in Georgia's Kafepantopleiion.

Mirthios/Myrthios is 2 km from Plakias and 36 km from Rethymnon as the crow flies, at an altitude of 160 - 200 metres and has a wonderful, unobstructed view of the bay of Plakias and the Libyan Sea.

The local community of Mirthios comprises the settlements of Mirthios, Kalipso, Kampos, Kokkina Chorafia, Plakias and Finikas.

Mirthios has long ceased to be an insider tip. Especially in summer, Mirthios gets really busy in the evenings. Everyone wants to eat in the 5 tavernas (Panorama, Plateia, Dyonissos, Vrisi and Kapilio) in the evening and enjoy the panoramic view/sunset over Plakias.

Mirthios has now become very trendy and a little chic (gentrifaction), also thanks to the shops selling jewellery and clothes. Unfortunately, there is no longer a Kafenio. There used to be 2 quaint Kafenia in Mirthios. One was opposite the Dyonissos taverna, which was still called Myrthos at the time. Then there was Georgia's Kafepantopleiion. She was over 90 years old and died a few years ago.

Where to stay / Re: Long term rentals
« Last post by kokkinos vrachos on September 11, 2024, 08:25:44 AM »
Kalimera, I'm bringing this thread up again - as I'm always interested in long-term rentals.

I had a look at the Morpheas Apartments in November 2023, the supermarket is part of it.
Some apartments and studios are rented out here in winter. Just speak to the person at the checkout in the supermarket.

Kalimera, according to a newspaper report from yesterday, the Kotsifou gorge is to be reopened to motor traffic in September.

Specialised teams have already cleared the mountain of dangerous rocks.

Where to stay / Re: Two month stay
« Last post by kokkinos vrachos on August 05, 2024, 10:41:02 AM »
Kalimera Davos, the best way is of course always to be on site and look at a few accommodations and then talk to the landlord about all the details (costs etc.).

Morpheas next to the supermarket (belong together) rents out several studios and apartments, also for longer periods.

Where to stay / Two month stay
« Last post by Davos on August 01, 2024, 07:30:02 PM »
Hi all.
I have friends looking for a place to hire for October and November the full two months.
If any of you have any suggestions or ideas, could you please let me know. It is for two adults and a very well behaved dog.
Thanks, Davos.
