:) Just booked a cheap (very) last minute week in Plakias at the KC from LBA. We have been in May, June, July & September, so have got to try October. Be good to get away from all this manky weather.

Looking forward to August and two weeks at Stella, and the beach and Kyma and so on and so on.........
Barny.
-
We are going for 2 weeks from 18.febr. Wondering the weather so early.
-
Would be very interested indeed in hearing how it goes... Weather, tavernas and so on. Love the idea of visiting out of season but have never tried.
-
Arrived in late April/early May once and found only a few tavernas open...but that was quite a few years ago and friends who live there tell me that Plakias is now open beyond the traditional season. Enjoy ! (lucky things !).
-
I was in plakias two years ago, last week in March,... Not much open, but plenty of activity readying for next season. The major problem I encountered was the short days and cool short evenings. Please post when you return with your experiences
-
Just come home from 2 weeks in Plakias. First week was wet and cold, with rain a little snow and wind Second week much better. Up to 20 gr and more days of sunshine. Not many resturants were open, some shops were open, but no problems, food shopping at the supermarket. Interesting to be at this time, very different.
-
Bet the far end wasn't very busy! Roll on July!!
-
Too right!
Just booked room for August, now to wait for prices to drop. Monarch want £545 return in August!
This is from East Midlands.
Barny.
-
"Monarch want £545 return in August! This is from East Midlands." - I din't know Monarch did EMA???? Only Jet2 and Thomson (or Ryanair for Chania). Sure you don't mean BHX?
-
I had notification just this week saying that Monarch were no longer flying from EMA.
-
Oops wrong airport!
-
£459 from east mids with jet 2, not bad times either, maybe it will get cheaper as time goes by.
I am looking at August though!
Barny.
-
Well done, not too bad. See you in the Kyma, Yamas
-
And a chat with Geoff?
-
Ha Ha Barny

And a chat with Geoff?
Naughty naughty!!!!!
-
We're there at the same time and I the same places!!
-
We should all meet up, it would be nice to put faces to names.
We have coffee at Livicon some mornings about eleven & we are very regular visitors at the Kyma , just ask Pavlos he knows everybody.
-
He is history, Dave and Les told me the story.
Here's to a brilliant 2015 in Plakias!
As if it's ever not!
Barny.
-
Here Here Barny, lets all have a good time, Yamas.
-
We fly out on 6th June staying in Frangocastelo until 13th then Plakias until 23rd June.
Only met a couple of other forum members in Plakias, so yes , it would be good to have a get together one evening if others are on holiday at this time.
-
Hope you have a good time Triton, pity we will miss you, we arrive 5th May until 10th June but will also be there in Aug & Sept.
Hope we get to meet up sometime.

Good old Olympic, had an email telling me of a sale of £100 off. So had a look and found a very nice price to Plakias leaving on 19th May for two weeks at the Irida Plakias Studios for £329 from Manchester. Not bad at all, even cheaper the next week but, we cant do that date. Still got it booked for the 19th. Not long to go.
-
I was going to retort that the discount was not real, and to tell people to beware of Greek holiday companies bearing gifts. I had a price at the top of our budget last week and we were still mulling it over, and thought when I got the email that a £200 discount for the two of us would be very acceptable... However, when I looked at the same holiday yesterday it was nearly £200 more, taking it completely out of our range. Olympic had taken off the online discount and put the price up, then put on the advertised £100.
I started looking elsewhere, with other companies, and today decided to check again. Well, wonder of wonders, the price had come down to slightly lower than the original price. I checked in a bit later with the intention of booking, and it was down by another £60. I phoned, and by using loyalty bonus points as well, got a week in August at Kosta Chrysoulla for £800 for two, which for all of you who are able to go out of season and may not realise, is a very good price.
So, yippee, we will be back in Plakias 4-11 August, and free of teenagers. We have taken along a friend for our daughter for the past three holidays, now it's the turn of her friends' parents!
I know Dave&Les are there, and I hope to meet Barny (who has put his holiday dates into the calendar).

You will !

Good old Olympic, had an email telling me of a sale of £100 off.
Boo - hoo! Why haven't I got an email?
But then again if they've just been messing with the figures I suppose it's no great loss. It's the most expensive price I've seen for Plakias this year - I blame the Euro!!!
I'll keep watching and hopefully make it in September/October - fingers crossed.
-
Hi Daza,
You don't need the email - the £100 per person is already taken off the price on the website (notionally!). However I think even Einstein would struggle to work out the algorithm that sets the Olympic prices and daily fluctuations.
If you are waiting for your late deal, I have noticed in the past that when the Germania flight is full (or no longer running as in October from Manchester), the cost gets more expensive the closer you get to the date, presumably due to the scheduled flight companies' policy of putting their prices up for last minute travellers.
The supplement for the Germania day flight from Manchester is high this year, but I am unwilling to arrive in the middle of the night and spend the last day roomless. At the moment the supplement for Jet2 from Manchester would have been nearly £300 pp on top of the price of the holiday!
Even though I'm jealous of those who manage to get an off peak cheap holiday, I will be philosphical. If Plakias were cheap and easy to get to, it would not be Plakias.

I agree that supplements are totally unreal. Checking Jet2 flights from LBA with Olympic, supplements are £272pp. Mind you two weeks in KC from LBA on 19May will cost an eye opening £832pp!!!
From Manchester when default flights are with Germania, there is an option to fly Jet2 (amongst others) and the supplements are an unbelievable £599pp. Jet2 flights from Man to Her are only £775 for two people!!! Olympic pricing has always confused me, but while ever they come up with bargains now and again I will continue to use them, having had no major problems in the ten years we have used them.
Hope everyone's Plakias holiday in 2015 goes as well as expected.

We've used Autoway for multi years now. Always so reliable and utterly helpful and trustworthy. I no longer look for any potentially cheaper options - if there are any
-
We have used Autoway in the past as well and have been very pleased.
Cheers Tony
-
I phone Olympic and ask them for cheaper price than the website. Usually get another £20 to £30 per person off
-
The calendar is looking pretty bare in terms of events (people staying in Plakias) save for August that is. Anybody would think no one was going this year. Any takers for September and October folks? Just interested in case I manage to bag a deal myself.
-
Even though we r not on the calendar, we go 5th Aug until 30th Sep.
We are staying at the Paligremnos & the food in their tavern is excellent in such a beautiful setting.
Any forum members interested in a meet up, let us know.
-
We are there from 22 Sept for 14 days and yesterday booked flight for 26 April 2016 for 14 days which will include the Greek Easter.
-
We have just returned from Anaxos, Lesvos, and now have to wait 15 weeks for our overdue return to Plakias on 6th. October, affordable thanks to the good deals that Olympic had been offering earlier in the year.
Hopefully the devastation of the fire will have been erased, and some form of normality returned to the tavernas affected.
On a side note: I have now got a taste for Fix beer, I assume it is available draught and bottled in Plakias, but my other half still prefers Mythos!
Ta Leme syntoma Plakias.
-
Fix is sold in bottles in some taverns and bars.
-
And in bottles at the large supermarket near the camping ground

FIX is a brand of Greek lager beer. The FIX brewery was founded in 1864 by the Fuchs family in Athens, Greece (which had come to Greece from Bavaria with King Otto) and grew significantly when owned by Karl Fuchs (in Greek: Κάρολος Ιωάννου Φιξ, Karolos Ioannou Fix) . This became the first major brewery in Greece and made many deliviries to Mediterranean countries where beer is now very popular.
It's well worth a try!!
-
Yup! well worth a try!
-
Have you tried the FIX Dark - It's delicious. Don't know if they are going to continue brewing it but I'd continue to buy it (It's supposed to be limited edition). We had a number of bottles from the Kantina bar below the women's cooperative in Petra square, Lesvos last month.
And I must admit - I think I prefer the "normal" Fix to Mythos - never thought I'd say that!!!

I only ever drink Mythos - or Alpha if Mythos is not available (Apanemo) - but will give Fix a try for a change.
-
Used to drink Amstel many years ago in Plakis, then the Mythos fixation took over, so it's only Mythos now!!!
-
I to used to be an Amstel drinker then swapped to Mythos when it appeared as a Greek beer on different islands. When it was taken over by Scottish & Newcastle brewery I swapped to Alpha and Fix which I believe are still genuine Greek owned brewery's. There is also a craft brewery in Athens which makes a small range of draught beers, which I am sure some of the forum members have tried. These beers are available on some islands but not highly promoted, if anyone comes across these beers I would recommend trying them. I seem to remember that 'On the Rocks' in Plakias advertised it at one time but did not have any when I asked.
-
By the way - IF you open the link (for the Fix dark) there are some amusing youtube adverts for it which will make you chuckle (or cluck or quack)!!! I especially like the last one with the "weather vein"
-
Apparently the micro brewery at Armeni on the road from Rethymnon (on the right as you head to Plakias) is (or was) good. Very local ! I am not sure if it is still operational or if it opens to visitors (my CAMRA colleagues would be keen !). I prefer Mythos. Hubbie likes Amstel but we're always keen to try others so will keep a look out this year !
-
Oh, I forgot to add last time that I also drink Rethymnon light and dark beer, but am not sure if it's genuinely brewed locally in Rethymnon or by one of the international conglomerates.
