Here on the Plakias Map

Stayed there for two weeks in September 2006, on a B&B basis, via Kosmar.

The room was of adequate, if not generous size, with a small balcony, and I believe that the self catering rooms on the ground floor are generally larger.

The expanding , wall mounted, clothes horse was broken and those on several other balconies appeared so also.

The room had a fridge, with an electricity socket over it for the TV. There was a further socket over the bed side table, but not at the dressing table.

There is an aircon unit if you want to pay the supplement.

The bathroom contained two small bars of soap, a toilet roll and nothing else, not even tooth mugs.

Sheets and towels have been well used, but are changed every two days. These are laundered on site and a great deal of noise is generated at the rear of the building on wash days.

Our overall impression was of grubbiness. The floor of the room was dirty when we arrived and there was a noticeable amount of sand on the balcony. The daily cleaning seemed to rearrange the dirt rather than remove it. The tiling above the water line in the pool was very dirty. It was cleaned about half way through our stay, but was dirty again by the time we left.

The pool is quite small, about 70 sq. metres. Whilst I saw no sign of the pool water being tested to determine dosing levels, chlorine crystals were administered daily, which is better than nothing and an improvement on a great many. On the 7th September the pool water was at 76.2 F, compared to the sea temperature next day, which was 75.8 F.

Hot water is from solar heated roof tanks, but we could get reasonably hot water in the mornings, so the storage capacity must be quite generous. The water was hotter the wider the tap was opened, so there can be no lagging to the pipework.

There is no shower curtain/enclosure and normal Greek precautions â€" towels above waist height, toilet seat up, toilet paper removed to the bedroom â€" are required.

Breakfast was three slices of bread, with butter and some jam, an orange juice made up from concentrate (so the taste was a lottery every morning), tea or coffee and another item which changed daily â€" cheese, croissant, boiled egg, cake etc. A bit samey, but you can buy something different when you get bored.

The B&B rooms have no self catering facilities, but we were for-warned and took a travel kettle with us so we could make coffee when we wanted. We had to buy a couple of glasses (thanks Ali and Dave) to have some decent juice before we went down for breakfast.

The hotel is located at the East end of town, so is more convenient for the beach than a lot of the other accommodation, and immediately across the road from the stony, town, end of the beach.

All in all, we have been in better, but also in worse.
