For us poor souls who have already been this year, just a little reminder of some of the things we've been missing!

Also I'm still on the lookout for a cheap extra hol Sept/Oct if anyone spots a bargain ???

Yep we have our shopping list ready for the visit tomorrow night.

Incidentally we fly out to Plakias on 21.09.10 staying at Kosta  Chrysoulas.  My first visit but will be Jan's second.  She is worried sick that I will think that Plakias does not live up to what she has been telling me.

Good find Jann, but I've drunk Mythos at home and to be honest it really wasn't the same.
I always savour that first beer of the holiday after a long hot day on the beach. I get settled into Antonis's and look at that frosted glass... and then pour...OMG is that a wonderful feeling or what? One is never enough is it?

It depends on what she's been telling you Alan   .
Just go with an open mind like we all did the first time, and soak it all in and enjoy!

Alan, as George said just go with an open mind !  but I have to say I have yet to meet anyone who didn't love Plakias though

I really hope you enjoy it, I've been to Kostas twice not luxurious but everything you need and the 2 Kostas are nice people, it's a lovely bar to go back to after your evening jaunt and stays open till you are ready to go to bed. (or fall off your stool)

Wish I was goiing  again

George, I agree it's never the same at home but I'm still going to give it a try

might have a greek barbie  if we get a nice weekend !

Most certainly will be going with an open mind as I always do when visiting a new place.  We've been to some wonderful places and some have been revisited. Pefkos on Rhodes is very relaing for us as we usually stay on the outskirts of the village. Jan says it is bigger than Plakias and probably a bit more lively.
Arillas in NW Corfu is an absolute delight and we have already booked to go back there next May. Have a look at arillas.com.
Also fell in love with Paleochora further along the coast westwards from Plakias. One day we will return there.  Been to lots of other places but none have captured lus like the ones I've mentioned.

George we always keep our beer in the bottom of the fridge (coldest part) and our glasses in the freezer. Tend to leave a smidgeon of water in the bottom of the glass. Helps to give a bit of extra to the head.

I stayed in Pefkos years ago, before I found Plakias, and up to a point I would compare it as it was then with Plakias, but we did revisit about 9-10 years ago and I hated what it had become. So now, in my opinion there is no comparison, Pefkos had become a commecialised haven, with fast food outlets and noisy bars.
Paleochora is so much bigger than Plakias, but does I admit have a similar feel, but not the quaintness of Plakias in my opinion, but I was only there for a couple of days.
I won't comment on your last sentence, it'll get me into trouble!

You're a cruel woman Jann!
Hopefully you've saved some for the weekend's bbq, or do you need to get another crate?

It was really good George    could almost imagine I was in Plakias

Not much chance of a barbie I don't think,  it's thunder and lightning here (the only reason I'm awake at this unearthly hour )

But.................... will, go and get another crate just in case

are you still thinking of going back this year?

We haven't had any proper rain down here for months Jann, so you can send some down if you want to

It's getting a bit late now Jann, it would have been next Tuesday if I did go and it's getting a bit tight now!
But I will be back next year, absolute defo!! 2 years without my fix is not doing me any good so I'll boost up my campaign and get something sorted

Now "Fix" (a beer brewed in Athens) was (is?) much better than Mythos (as far as I recall)!

We've had this conversation on the forum before Rogataber!
I must admit that I am a little sentimental about 'Fix'. It was my first introduction to the delights of Greece, and wasn't it odd sitting in a bar asking the waiter for a Fix?
I think I drank them out of business!
