Plakias / Car Hire
« on: May 11, 2022, 05:29:19 PM »
Hi. I know that car hire has been discussed before, but companies change, and prices certainly have. Just wondering what recommendations other members would have. We will probably get a taxi transfer, but will want to hire a car when we're in Plakias, and certainly want to use a local company.
 :)

Plakias / Re: This could be interesting !!!
« on: May 10, 2022, 08:59:36 PM »
Very sad - I hope it can be stopped. So many places are being spoiled by over-development. I guess some people would say, that compared with many other places, Plakias isn't over-developed, but the vast majority of tourists holidaying in Plakias have returned many times because of place it is, not because of the place it could become.

As of 10 days ago, yes to both. 2 beds & brolly still 5 euro, I believe donuts still 2 euro but didn't buy one.
It's been a few years since we visited, but good to know that things haven't changed too much. :)

We loved the train, but have to admit that it really wasn't up to struggling up to Asomatos or beyond. Good to know that it is still working though.

Well spotted, Richard. It doesn't look like it is regularly updated, but even so, there is useful information on the site.

We were in Corfu, the same time as you, Stuart and Hilary. As you say, the weather was quite cool  and cloudy (we were in the NE, at Kalami). Fortunately, we like walking, and that area is perfect for it. Overall, though,we still think the walking in the Plakias area is the best, as the hills and gorges are more accessible than in other places we've been.

Yes - Livicon is the perfect place for watching the flow of people along the street. Comfy seats as well. :)

We also had a good experience at Heraklion this year, checking in for a Thomson flight. Less than 10mins queue, fast through security, and the plane took off 20mins early :)

I see that Plakias beach has been listed as 9th best naturist beach in the world - well deserved.

There were plenty more, but all similar - just a bit of fun rather than art, I think.

Quite agree Mike. It seemed to us that taverna prices hadn't gone up much since our last visit in 2009.

We found the internet connection at KC very slow. Luckily, the signal from Korali was strong and was a much faster connection. We hadn't eaten at Korali so didn't have the password, but they weren't very imaginative when choosing it so we got it after a couple of guesses. :)

PlakChat / Sunbed Guy (sorry - didn't get his name)

After a break of 5 years, we returned this year and so it was the our first year not seeing Freddy collecting the sunbed money. We were very impressed by the new chap who's doing it, noticing that he diligently picks up any cigarette ends or other litter he sees and puts it in a bin. He even reprimanded the doughnut seller for dropping his cigarette end when he was on his fag break at the far end. :)

Just back from Plakias (30 Sept to 14 Oct) and the weather suited us perfectly: not too hot for walking during the middle of the day, but still warm enough for the beach and swimming in the sea on lazy days. Plakias is often windy but while we were there the wind was often very strong during the night but it usually died away by 8 or 9am. There wasn't a single day when we thought we'd be sand-blasted on the beach. The other thing we found different to other years was that on several occasions the weather up the gorge looked pretty nasty but thankfully never threatened to reach Plakias.

I forgot to include Medousa - I just love the Spicy Pork. We thought the redecoration was well done. We like rustic tavernas with an authentic feel most of the time but it's nice to ring the changes, now and again.

We tried pizzas at Kri Kri as they boasted a wood fire. We weren't disappointed, and Karen was pleased that they offered small pizzas - a good size if you're having a starter and don't have a big appetite.

Later in the holiday, we went back to Mouses and Harakas. Tried different dishes and again, couldn't fault the food or service.
