According to a few of the web-weather sites over the last couple of days, the Aegean area is supposed to be suffering Arctic conditions!

One report on ERT states "the biggest part of Chania is snowbound" - which may be down to mistranslation of "highest part" .... but snow is definitely causing problems.

So, what's it like in Plakias?  Has it really been colder than Manchester?!!!

I got a text from my friends who live in Asomatos saying that they had lots of snow on Saturday.
Tony

This picture was not taken this year but it does show that Plakias can get quite alot of snow [attachment=560:Snowy_Plakias.jpg]

Holiday Companies / Easyjet to Crete!

Certainly waiting for this announcement has paid dividends for us as we have booked our flights with Easy Jet for the end of July at less than half the normal cost, which has pretty much paid for the accommodation if you compared to what we paid for flights in 2007.

Steve & Dawn.

Have just been on the East Jet site and it came back with a total of £663.56 for 2 people flying from Gatwick in August and returning at the beginning of Sept.

And I thought they were meant to be cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

XL are quoting £680 but with much better flight times.

Peter&Dawn

Hello Peter & Dawn......Are you sure you have put your details into the easyjet site correctly ?  I have just looked at their site.... a Gatwick flight for two weeks from 19th August to 2nd September  ...without insurance equates to £433.56 for two people

I've always avoided the Curries ems, perhaps at the back of my mind they weren't Cretan, but on your recommendation I'll give it a go.

Just returned home today... its official - Lysseos does the best food in Plakias, leagues ahead of any of the others. And the service is excellent too

I qm amazed to see ths thread still going strong a year after i started it and delighted to see another thumbs up for the Lyssoes . Please help whet my appetite Ems - my favourites include the kleftiko , lamb in the oevn , chicken skrtado , pork afelia , the roasts , the stuffed pork .. cant remember others but I usually manage two weeks without repeating anything until the last couple of days when i revert to my favourites .
 anything new this year ?
 roger

I had baby goat in the Lysseos this year.....it was delicious as is all their food . Also Lito's home made gateaux are to die for as a desert as are the strawberries and cream.....yum yum.
Roll on September

Thanks to all - we're now booked in for September. Thanks especially to Boxerlover for the hotel link - we hadn't found that one. We know Bouzouki already from the beach so I guess we'd better bring some munchies for him!

Hope to see you in September Sebbee.

Spent four nights at the Plakias Bay Hotel in late April 2007, €60 per night B&B for two.  Well-run by Aris and Natasha Moraitis. Spacious, clean rooms with good-sized bathrooms and balconies mostly looking down the beach to the town which is 15 mins walk away (with full street-lighting all the way). Very quiet location (in April, anyway) behind the nudie Far End of the beach. Rooms have air/con and refrigerators. Hiccup with the hot water supply was quickly fixed. Very nice spot and good value.

Sounds like you had a great time Andy........only 12 days to go before our first visit of the year to Plakias or should that be 288 hours

Whilst you were staying at the Plakias Bay hotel did you come across Bouziki, the very friendly dog of the owners? I have already packed some doggy treats in my case for him.
