Where to stay / What's happening with Stella Pensions??
« on: December 15, 2004, 08:54:02 PM »
Thanks John. We also got a card today. Have been in touch with Marcos via fax and have received details about room prices.  The cost is 30 euros a night including breakfast and air conditioning. This seems pretty good to us as air con use to cost an extra 30 euros a week. Does anyone know what Stella and Yanni would appreciate from England. We would like to take them something when we go in July?

Thanks a lot John. We can now hopefully get the room we want. We thought long and hard about going it alone or booking with a travel firm. In the end we decided to go it alone and stay at the Stella because we love it so much. It's nice and quiet and has a lovely feel about the place. We hate big hotels and like bathing on the beach, not around a crowded pool. Also we know where it is when we've had a few!   I hope regulars like the Stella Pensioners try to go it alone in future and give Stella and Yanni their custom.
I'm sure they'll let you know where they're staying. If not it must have been something you said!!!

Thanks everyone for all your info, it's been really helpful.  My wife's just booked flights for next June for my big 40  , so I will be on the fax machine at work on Monday to book a room. We have stayed at Stella for the last five years and always had a different room. Having a memory like a sieve especially after a few in Ostraco's!     Can anyone confirm that room 7 is the  first double room at the back on the upper floor. Also does anyone know what room number the very end room on the left on the same floor is ( I know it's got two single beds but it's got a sea view). I hope someone can refresh my memory and once again thanks for all your help. If anyone's in town on July 2nd see you in Ostraco's late !!!

Lets hope it is just a fishing exercise and no one takes the bait!  At least with no firm starting date set we can hopefully enjoy a few more years of bliss. I for one hope the whole thing goes belly up!!!  Thanks for the info please let me know if you find out more.

Could anyone who recently stayed at the Stella Pensions shed a bit of light as to what the future now holds for Stella and Yanni now that First Choice have pulled out of Plakias?  Anyone know if we can book them independently, or have they been taken over by another foreign company? Also can anyone recommend accomodation for a family of four (2 children  11 and 7) with a private balcony, as we normally go on our own but want to take the kids next year.

Gossip / Planned building in Plakias

When we were in plakias in May I asked a few of the locals about the proposed building on the front. Manolis from the Meltemi who now runs the beach bar knew there was going to be apartments built soon, but seemed to think it would be a few years before a big developement went ahead because of the cost of the land. From the looks of the plans on the website it looks pretty damned big to me! I know some of the locals including Yannis from Ostraco's would welcome the extra trade such a developement would bring and who could blame them. I just hope it won't destroy the fantastic atmosphere of the village. When we talked to Adonnis at Mousses you could tell he was a little concerned about any future developements on the front. He didn't want the place to lose its charm. I think its inevitable things will change eventually. Best make the most of it now, we're already planning our next trip. Anybody reading this in town say hello to Yannis(ostaco's) and Spiros Pipi(from Talos). Have a drink with Manolis at the beach bar and have a raki or three with the boys in Mousses. Also say hi to Ostraco. We met him in May and I've got a nice photo to prove it. I'll post it if I ever find out how to!  ....Yammas

Where to go / First Visit
« on: May 01, 2004, 09:21:45 PM »
This is the first time I've posted, so I hope it works. We've always used First Choice and have always been ok. Cheap and cheerful and worth the overnight travelling and that painful early morning airport transfer on the journey home! See some of you in Ostraco's no doubt. 20 days and counting.
