Holiday Companies / taxi transfer from Chania
« on: October 11, 2022, 01:41:54 PM »
Hi. We've been going to Plakias for over 30 years and usually hire a car. My son is going this Saturday (15th) and requires a taxi transfer from Chania. Any advice on the best company to use regarding reliability and price would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi,
We fly home from Hania on Saturday. So we went to pharmacist today to get our LF tests done. Although both negative, he could not find us on the system using our Greek Passenger Locator Form. Therefore he has not given us a certificate!!
Has anyone else had this experience?
Or does anyone have a solution?
As things stand we will try the doctor tomorrow.
Thanks J&G

Thanks Daniel. We're both double vaccinated too so the test at the medical centre should do us. Disappointing to hear about the further development on the front, makes you wonder how many supermarkets Plakias needs!

Booked today for 18th September for 2 weeks. Flights from East Midlands to Chania on Ryanair very cheap-?130pp return including reserved seat and luggage. However car hire about 50% more than it was last year. I wanted to ask the situation regarding the PCR test prior to flying back to the UK. Someone mentioned Plakias medical centre but not sure if you have to book this prior to the test and how soon do you get the results? Any information gratefully received. All the best.

Plakias / Car hire
« on: February 14, 2019, 06:08:43 PM »
After numerous visits to Plakias over the past 27 years some friends are joining us in June. As usual we will hire a car from Autoholidays at Chania airport as we've always found them good and cheap. However on the off chance we need a second car for separate trips I was wondering what the car-hire places were like in Plakias. Any recommendations gratefully received.

Sounds good-we always choose September, as do many others, as not so hot and the wind tends to be more bearable. I checked on the weather link from this site previously and September has the lowest average wind. 12 days to go!

I normally go to Plakias every August and have done for the last 29 years but unfortunately I was unable to make it this August. I decided to have a week in September. I am amazed as to the amount of rooms that are fully booked.
Is it really that busy in September? is the beach full (far end) and all the tavernas ETC?
i am going to wait until next August now as it's guaranteed to be nice and quiet.
Have a good one everybody!

We went last year in early September as we always do and couldn't get our usual room at Calma apartments as they were full-the first time this has happened. Generally busy on the beaches when we were there but strangely rather quiet around the tavernas in the evening. We're off again on the 22nd of this month and will do an update then.

Tried accessing the Plakias webcams over the last few days-curious to see if there was any snow! However they are not coming up. Are they down or is it some issue at my end?

Plakias / Wind!

When is the best time of year to avoid the really high winds you sometimes get in Plakias? We've been coming since '92 and have just been charged with giving advice to a friend who plans visiting this summer. We would reckon September.

Disappointed to hear about the bakery near Muses. We usually stay at that end of town and popping in there for fresh bread is usually part of my morning ritual. Lovely lady there, she always used to spoil our kids with free cakes etc.

It rained a lot in Plakias last week.....

Blimey! Still rather be there than here though
I'm with you Paul, I've seen some incredible storms while in Plakias, and in some respect they're a welcome relief from the continuously hot blistering sunshine.
I do feel for the locals though who have to clear up afterwards.
I think it's odd as well that in the aftermath of a storm people will still try and dodge the puddles even with flip flops or sandals on!

george...
We were there for the storm last Sunday 25th-woken by thunder at 3am and the storm lasted until midnight. At one point during the afternoon saw a tornado out to the east. So much mud came down the river that the sea was brown to about half a mile out-easily covering the bay-it looked just like Cleethorpes!

Plakias / Worrying Development
« on: November 13, 2008, 08:08:39 PM »
We returned after a week on 2nd Nov and there was still work going on at the development next to Paligremos. Only 5 workmen or so and a sarcastic "they're cracking on with this!" became the running joke of the holiday.

Plakias / "Oxi Day" in Plakias

We had a similar experience in Paleochora, where we visited friends who have just retired there, before moving onto Plakias. Again the town was packed with Greeks of all ages to see the schoolchildrens' procession. Quite charming and rather moving. A reminder of Greece's role in the last war-you could argue that Greece saying "no" to Mussolini lost Hitler the war.
