THE GORGE OF SAMARIA MAY NOT BE OPEN FOR TOURS THIS YEAR
Inspectors, geologists and physicists investigating damages in the Gorge of Samaria feel that the area will not be safe for tourists this year. Major repairs amounting to hundreds of thousands of euro will be needed. The Alpinist resort has a leaky roof; the main passage has been blocked with trees and boulder stones. Two thousand tourists go through the gorge daily. If an emergency arises, gorge staff will not be able to reach them. Needless to say that the gorge is understaffed, there is no resident medical doctor, and that the towns of Sfakia, Loutro and the Agia Galini area will be tremendously affected, as well as sea transportation vessels.

Sounds like this year I'll have a valid excuse NOT to walk it again
Seriously though, that's sad news that a major tourist attraction like Samaria should be in so much trouble.

leen, i'm sure ( and hope) you won't take offense but...
i think you've made a little 'typo' there it's agia roumelli ( spelling?) that will suffer
there has been a quite a few injuries from falling rocks in the gorge in the last few years

i know i'm replying to my own post here but thinking about it today, this could cripple Agia Roumelli
when the ferries leave there's nothing going on there
