Holiday Companies / From Heraklion Airport to Plakias by bus

There's a company I used to use for my customer's when booking a dynamic package; Holiday taxis
< HolidayTaxis.Com> you select the destination ie- Crete Heraklion then date and resort ( yes, they have Plakias) and it brings
up the options of shuttle bus transfer (single about £20 each or return about £40)  taxi usually comes out quite a bit more so probably better locally, but if your wanted to be quids up, go for the shuttlebus transfer- it's either a mini bus or transfer coach. Just an idea for you if it's any help!

Just looked and that shuttlebus service looks very cheap indeed. Would be interesting to find out just how "available" it really is when required etc.

John R

Wll like I say, I used to use it to book my customers their transfers if the holiday didn't include them.  I've done for several different countries and as far as I know, the shuttle bus acts just like a transfer coach would or taxi service ie; if there's say some people arriving at a similar time as you and are going to Bali or Ayia Galini for example you would be on the same bus as them, so  you may have some stops on the way or  could just be direct!
here's their definition of the shuttle service:

Shuttle Transfer

Shuttles are a cheap, quick and effective way of travelling to and from your accommodation in a city or country you may be unfamiliar with. When using a pre booked shuttle service you instantly have the security of knowing how you will arrive directly at your accommodation. Please be aware that there may be a wait for your shuttle at the airport since they run to a schedule, Maximum wait time 1 hour. Transfer times are estimated and can depend on traffic and the number of stops en-route.

hope that helps!
Row
PS one piece of advice is to phone holiday taxis before travel and get the relevant telephone number for your destination so that you're not left stranded! I had one lady that for some reason thought the driver would come and fetch her from her apartment and the bus left without her! There's no Rep to make sure you're there, so if you're not on time, the driver will go!

Thanks George,

We're actually looking at accom in Souda, which was why I mentioned the harbour, but that's okay then, at least it won't give the other half such a fright when I show him all the pictures tonight .......lol

Plakias / Worrying Development

Hey, long time no see....

Just doing alot of catching up of the topics...
I just wanted to add my piece on this...it's a bit of a shame that the beautiful landscape of Plakias is being blotted with 'Spain-like' developments. Okay I know places 'move on' and change over the years but I can't help thinking this new development is going to attract the type of clientele that stay in nothing but 5 star accomodation, love a beautiful secluded location ( they sound okay,I hear you say) but I book people like these on holidays all the time and they don't give a hoots whether they're in Barbados, Egypt or Crete!!  I went to a lovely little hamlet on Crete a couple of years back and that too has been bombarded with developers each wanting a little slice of paradise.  Problem is, there's not going to be anywhere left to build on at this rate and before you know it paradise turns into a bustling, cosmopolitan, urban nightmare, you only have to look at Malia ( knowing it when there were only a few buildings and lots of banana plantations). Or even worse, Benidorm!..(okay slight exageration but you get the picture...)
It'll be ten years next year since we properly stayed in Plakias ( I know, how could we stay away so long? It's been torture I'll tell ya!)  This'll sound awful and I don't like to say it but.. I hope we're not disappointed

I can't believe they're building a harbour in Souda?! That's not so bad, I can cope with that

I don't think anyone will hold that against you Tom! I'm sure everyone will agree that the brits have done plenty of development on the island too  ,  just look at what's happening to the surrounding areas of Chania  !

Okay just browsing the forum and saw this topic and just have to ask - my dp said that he'd love to stay in  Anapoli for a couple of nights when we eventually visit crete again, we know where it is but is it true that it's quite difficult to get to? One of our friends said recently when we'd mentioned it that they'd tried to drive to to the village but turned back as the roads were too scary! Are they fibbing  ?

I was very sad too, we started seeing each other the summer i was out there, not till the end of sept though but we had some really good times until i came home in november! I went back out twice the following year and went to live again in 2000 but i was already pregnant so i had to come home and decided to keep the baby, manolis seemed upset with me but we still talked! Lewis was born just before manolis died so emotional also! I think his mum is still around, i haven't been for a couple of years now coz of new arrival etc! I haven't been to the grave yet, though i would like to go and put something there, i did pass by where it happened and couldn't understand what he was doin! I will pass on your greeting, i talk to sharron quite often, no more children them! if you have msn i would like to give you my addy, would be good to chat.. x x

Yes I remember when I was there you said you liked him! I as you probably know had a couple of holiday romances with him in 96/97! Quite a charmer with the ladies!LOL! oh dear the forums are knowing our  past love life! He was though a lovely guy and,I think ,we had an argument or something in 98 cos we did not talk much-I was seeing an english lad, and manolis got a bit stroppy even though we weren't an item?( so I know what you mean!) But we became friends after I was in trouble one night in 99 ( a bloke was following me) he threatened the bloke then  drove me back to my boyfriends place-who I'm still with by the way! He was the rep and we're still going strong seven years on!!! My other half was friends with him too so it affected us both with his passing.  I'll join msn today ( my partner is on it so he'll show me how to get on there!) I would love to chat to you some more too, so why don't you email me your addy- I'll try and send you my email address to you now, in a personal message through the forum.  R x

Yes Louisa, you got it! I have a picture of you and me in the hexagon somewhere!
I look quite a bit different now! I was very sad to hear about manolis - I had just had my first son at the time so it was quite emotional, we used to stay with his brother george and his wife maria - I heard she'd got another recent addition to her family last year- a little girl this time! Great news.  Do you know if Manolis mum, is still with us? The last time I saw her was at the graveside and i was suprised that she'd remebered me, she's a lovely lady.
Anyhow I would be grateful if, when you're next in Plakias, you could pass on my greetings to Sharon and Yianni, have they had any more children, Louisa?

Well hello, can't remember the last time I was on here? Hope everyone is well!
I can't believe it's been 3 years since we were in Plakias! We were going to go last year- but I got an extreamley good deal for vlicha near Lindos in Rhodes!
It was lovely and not as busy as I thought it would be-which was nice. I've also just had a bouncing baby boy! So two sons now! Although I haven't posted in a while, I regulary look at the forums to keep updated. We would love to visit Plakias again in the future but looking at websites for accom, plakias only seems to cater for 3 persons in a room and I'm worried i won't be able to find somewhere to stay now there's 4 of us that's affordable as well? Unless I am missing somewhere?

very sad to hear about the fire but glad no-one was hurt.

Not sure if any of you will but I worked in the Ostaco Bar for the summer in 1998. I was only 17 but have been going to Plakias since I was 14, unfortunatly I havent managed to get out there for a couple of years but will be going in oct, can't wait to see everyone!  It is my mum and dad that have bought the ariadne, I hope you will try and go in and taste the food, even the full english breakfast!

OMG! I remember you louisa, from the hexagon and ostraco, although most likely you might not remember me!?
I spoke to you alot about working in plakias- you asked if I was going to stay that summer in '98 but unfortunatly I didn't.  I ended coming back though and worked in the apollo bar and forum bar the following year! Wow, the ariadne eh? Fantastic! have fun!!

Holiday Companies / Plakias

Well I was watching sky travel last night when an advert for property in Greece caught my attention. In particular it was the properties and future developments in Crete that really got me listening.  ''Why not think of going off the beaten track on the western side of Crete, to Chania...or furthur south...'' and yes you've guessed it, where did they show? Plakias and it's surrounding areas.
I think development is going to be quicker than expected.

Holiday Companies / are holiday companies pulling out of Maleme?
« on: August 30, 2005, 02:22:47 PM »
As a travel agent there is some truth in what John has asked.
Aren't you guys being a bit harsh? Has anyone looked at his website?
I have and to be honest their is not much difference between his forum and this one. They're both about greece and people that love to travel there. I can see your point of view about advertising but I didn't see any complaints when ukplakias 'advertised' the fact that he uses Travel counsellors or when links are added to other websites? Perhaps This bloke didn't realise he could use that in his signature-he seems to let members do it on his forum? And I've seen it on other forums too. I agree with Ali&Dave and I think a good idea would be to state  somewhere when you join, that it's not allowed.
But lets not turn into bullies now! It must seem very unwelcoming?!

There are other places that have been discussed on this forum apart from Plakias!
