Title: Taxi fares
Post by: beachcombers on November 10, 2009, 08:01:53 PM
Bad news:

Taxi charges increased yesterday, with the fare charged per kilometer now up to 0.60 euros from 0.48 euros. The fare after midnight is now 1.05 euros per kilometer, up from 0.84 euros. Another hike is due in May 2010 when the rate will reach 0.72 euros per kilometer.

Sorry I am confused :'(

Can I assume that the Kilomter Rate has gone from 0.48 Euros to 0.60 Euros (a nice 25% rise) as in your first part.

The second part relates to the total fare to Plakias of 84 Euros going up to 105 Euros??

Lovely! And a 20% increae in May will mean that a taxi to Plakias next year for us will be 126 Euros

Independant travel gets less and less attractive.

I just booked for August with Olympic two weeks at Irida with transfers included and compared it with what it cost me this year to go independent............ what a difference, £300 cheaper and that's with single person penalty !

the bus is a superb way to meet people, apart from backpackers that is.the fares were cheap and the service as reliable as anything we have here the last time i caught one.no wonder the taxi boys went mad when i tried to start a service in the town.i cant believe any one pays that sort of cash for a taxi.

I have only just seen this topic but before we all start panicking, it is 118km from Heraklion to Plakias which would mean a fare of £85 and the same as we paid this year.

An increase from €0.48 to €0.72 is 50%. The last fare I saw advertised at the airport was  €75 each way (I think it was, it certainly wasn't less). That would make the single journey €112.50 (over £100).

I understand that Mike but it is 118 km to Plakias and if you multiply that by €0.72 it gives you a figure of €84.96

From Kathimerini, May 2009:

Taxi fare charges are now up 33 percent to 48 cents from 36 cents per kilometer. The next increase will be in November, when the rate will rise to 60 cents, and the final hike is due in May 2010, when it will reach 72 cents. The minimum charge for a cab ride, 3.80 euros, will not change. In exchange for the fare increase, cabbies have vowed to stop common violations such as overcharging and taking on multiple fares.

So from this taxi fares should be:

Sep 2008 42
Sep 2009 56
Now        71
Sep 2010 85

This is Tarrif 1 remember, there is a Tarrif 2 for Midnight - 6am.
Not sure how set fares are affected by this. All a bit confusing.

Easiest thing to do is just e-mail Zach nearer the time and ask him.

Well no - but it was dark and I knew the roads well ---------- until------ - you know that sharp right hand bend as you exit the bottom of the big gorge. Well er I forgot it was there and it was a very interesting moment (or two). Took the last mile or so into Plakias at a much more sedate rate.

If I'd known that the good 'ol Dracs were still good, I wouldn't have wasted all those Euros over the years.
And I always leave a tip Barny, I told Freddie not to wear pink!!

Good tip George and talking of Freddie, Who gave him the tee shirt that reads 'good morning' on one side and 'five euros please' on the back !!
I would start a 'tip' chain off but can't think of any that will not get us in trouble with the locals!

If our glorious administrator likes them it's ok with me!! OK the pink's a bit iffy, they used to be red, but the sun faded them.

Good Tip!! Don't leave your 'crocs' out in the sunshine!!  Especially if they're red!!

For each way we used Zach's service and we were very satisfied.

Yesterday we have seen the prices for petrol and diesel. For petrol you would have to pay around 1,60 until 1,65 Euro
and for Diesel around 1,30 Euro. And these prices will increase during the next weeks. Probably for petrol until 1,80 Euro.
